Context

• With Veranus (the proto-drake brood mother) captured by Loken’s iron dwarves during the Thorim chain, the Stormpeak proto-drakes have become aggressive and are pushing into Stormcrest Eagle territory. Fjorlin Frostbrow hands you King Stormheart’s Storm Hammer (left behind when Muradin departed Frosthold) and sends you to thin the wyrms from eagle-back.

Mount Up

• Accepting the quest automatically mounts you on a Stormcrest Eagle. Fly northeast to the Foot Steppes around [43, 60], near the Engine of the Makers area.

Hunt the Wyrms

• Opening combo: Storm Bolt (Button 3) to stun, then Swoop (Button 1) twice. This kills a wyrm before the stun wears off, meaning it never hits you.
• If jumped first: Use Eye Gouge (Button 2). It lunges you toward the target, applies a heavy DoT, and prevents the wyrm from dealing damage. This is your panic button. One Eye Gouge alone will kill a wyrm from full health over time.
• In a group: Two Storm Bolts from two players is enough to kill a wyrm outright.

Finding Wyrms Efficiently

• Roosting wyrms are your easiest targets. Look for them perched on rocks, boulders, and cliff faces. Several sit near each other just below the ridgeline, and one often roosts atop the large cave entrance to the Frigid Tomb.
• Wyrms attacking rhinos are slow and distracted. If you see a wyrm carrying a rhino or diving on one, it’s an easy kill.
• Flying wyrms move faster than your eagle in the air but follow predictable circular flight paths. Don’t chase them in a straight line. Shortcut their arc by cutting across the inside of their circle, or hover at a known flight path point and wait for one to come to you.
• Spawn timers are somewhat long for Northrend. If other players are farming the same area, you may need to cover more ground.

Speed Tips

• The eagle is significantly faster on the ground than in the air. Stay near terrain while searching for targets. Skim the ridgelines and cliffs rather than flying high.
• You can dismount to loot wyrm corpses (useful for skinners), then re-accept the quest to get a new eagle, or simply fly back to Fjorlin. Looting is entirely optional.
• Melee attack (default: T key): The eagle itself can melee attack. Killing a wyrm with any melee damage (including the eagle’s own attacks) makes the corpse lootable and skinnable.

Prerequisite Clarification

• This daily requires three chains to be complete, not just one:
  1. The Brann Bronzebeard chain (ending with The Brothers Bronzebeard)
  2. The Thorim chain (ending with The Reckoning)
  3. The Frosthold starter chain including Baby Stealers
• If the daily isn’t showing up after completing the Brann chain, check whether you’ve done The Reckoning and Baby Stealers.

Frostborn Reputation Grind

This is the only daily quest that grants Frostborn reputation directly, making it essential for anyone pursuing Exalted. The grind can be supplemented by running Heroic dungeons without a tabard (Frostborn rep trickles in as an Alliance Vanguard subfaction at 50% of gains from other subfactions).

Good dungeon pairs for this are Utgarde Keep + Utgarde Pinnacle or Azjol-Nerub + Ahn’kahet, since their entrances are close together.

Bestiary: Stormpeak Wyrm

Proto-drakes are the ancient, untamed ancestors of Azeroth’s modern dragonflights. They descended from elementals who avoided imprisonment in the Elemental Plane and instead remained on Azeroth, gradually transforming into creatures of flesh and blood over millennia.

Unlike the dragons created when the titans uplifted five proto-drakes into the Aspects, proto-drakes remain bestial and territorial, described by one observer as “ruthless predators that cannot be reasoned with.” They possess a variety of elemental breath attacks and take decades to mature from hatchling to full-grown drake.

The Stormpeak Wyrms of the Foot Steppes are frost-attuned proto-drakes who use a Frost Spit breath attack that deals periodic frost damage. Under normal circumstances, they coexist in rough equilibrium with the Stormcrest Eagles of Frosthold.

That equilibrium shattered when Loken’s iron dwarves captured Veranus, the proto-drake brood mother and former riding mount of Thorim. Without Veranus maintaining order over the broods, the Stormpeak Wyrms have turned aggressive, pushing into eagle territory and preying on the local rhino population (you can often spot them diving on rhinos or carrying them aloft).

Thorim’s quest dialogue about Veranus adds a poignant detail: “She’s a broodmother in name only, for she is beyond the age of breeding.”

Lore Context

The Storm Hammer Fjorlin gives you for this daily is the same weapon Muradin/Yorg Stormheart left behind when he departed Frosthold to pursue Arthas at the conclusion of The Brothers Bronzebeard. Fjorlin’s quest text references this directly: “King Stormheart left this hammer to me. Make good use and see to it that I get it back.”

The quest’s premise ties back to the Thorim chain. Veranus, the proto-drake brood mother, was captured by Loken during The Reckoning. Without her keeping order among the proto-drake population, the Stormpeak Wyrms have become territorial and aggressive.

In the Ulduar raid, Veranus is transformed by Ignis the Furnace Master into Razorscale, a boss players must fight and (on hard mode) free.

The Stormcrest Eagles are the Frostborn’s signature flying mounts, used throughout the Storm Peaks questline (most memorably during Fervor of the Frostborn when Velog tells you the story of how the Frostborn found Yorg Stormheart).

Thorim had said that Veranus is “a broodmother in name only, for she is beyond the age of breeding.” If she can’t breed, her authority over the broods was never biological. The wyrms went feral because they lost her, not because they lost a mother.
