“Loken killed my wife, turned my followers and me against each other. He took away everything I had, but today… that changes. Today we reclaim our sacred grounds. Today… Loken dies. Meet me on the bridge near the Temple of Wisdom, just southwest of Ulduar. I will finish this one way or the other. I need you there as a witness. You will not aid me — this is personal.
After it’s done, send word to Jokkum, King of the Frost Giants. He’s a good friend and will know what to do.”

Quick Facts
Walkthrough
Step 1: Travel to the Temple of Wisdom: Fly northwest from the Terrace of the Makers to the Temple of Wisdom, located just southwest of the Ulduar raid entrance. Thorim is standing at the end of a bridge extending from the temple at [35.9, 31.5]. He is not inside the temple itself, and not at the meeting stone. Look for the bridge north of the main structure. The temple is recognizable by its serpent/thorn-wrapped pillars.
If the quest marker doesn’t appear on your minimap, fly to the Ulduar flight point and look left (southwest) for the bridge. Coordinates [35.9, 31.5] will put you right on him.
Step 2: Speak to Thorim: When you arrive, Thorim is waiting with this dialogue: “I’ve hidden from my destiny long enough. What I must do has never been clearer. Loken must be destroyed by my hand.” Select “I’m with you, Thorim” to trigger the scripted event. You cannot aid Thorim in this fight.
He told you at the Terrace: “You will not aid me. This is personal.”
Step 3: Watch the Confrontation: Stay and watch the full event. The quest objective (“Witness the Reckoning”) updates once the sequence completes. Do not fly away early or the quest will not complete.
| Sequence | Speaker | Line | What Happens |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Thorim | “It is time I put an end to my brother’s madness.” | Thorim walks toward the temple. |
| 2 | Thorim | “Loken!!” | Thorim yells, entering the temple. |
| 3 | Thorim | “Stand up and fight me, you worthless traitor!” | Combat begins between the two Keepers. |
| 4 | Loken | “You seem eager to join your beloved Sif, brother.” | Loken taunts Thorim with his dead wife’s name. |
| 5 | Thorim | “Do not dare… Speak… Her name!!” | Thorim erupts with fury and unleashes a flurry of attacks, knocking Loken back toward the center of the temple. |
| 6 | Loken | “ENOUGH!” | Loken stops holding back. |
| 7 | Loken | “Looks like you can still best me in a fair fight, little brother.” | Loken concedes Thorim is stronger one-on-one. |
| 8 | Loken | “Unfortunately for you… this fight is anything but fair!” | Loken incapacitates Thorim with a beam of energy, trapping him in a tentacle-shaped restraint. Summons two Runeforged Servants. |
| 9 | Loken | “Thanks to your little friend, you’ve left the Temple of Storms, where you were at your strongest. Instead we fight closer to my master’s power.” | The reveal. Loken explains the entire quest chain was his trap. The Temple of Wisdom is near Ulduar, Yogg-Saron’s prison, where the Old God’s power amplifies Loken’s abilities. |
| 10 | Loken | “Minions! Take my brother and his drake to their new dwellings. Make sure the beast makes it alive. I have special plans for the broodmother.” | Thorim and Veranus are captured. Both are taken into Ulduar. |
| 11 | Loken | “As for your life, mortal. I will be generous. After all… why would I destroy my most useful servant?” | Loken addresses YOU directly. |
| 12 | Loken | “I waited for you for weeks inside that Hyldnir mine.” | Confirmation: Loken was Lok’lira the Crone the entire time. |
| 13 | Loken | “The shape wasn’t mine, of course. And had you not been so reckless, you would’ve seen past my illusion. But you came through for me, and for that… I must thank you!” | Loken, Thorim, and the NPCs teleport away. |
Step 4: Report to King Jokkum: After the event, fly south to Dun Niffelem [65.5, 60.2] and turn the quest in to King Jokkum. His reaction is immediate fury: “No… it cannot be… No one can defeat Thorim in single combat. Not a giant, nor a beast… no one! Especially not that coward of a brother of his. On my forefathers’ names, this I swear… Loken will pay for this!”
Jokkum then offers the follow-up dungeon quest Whatever it Takes!, sending you into the Halls of Lightning to kill Loken and retrieve his tongue.
The Twist Explained: Why This Quest Matters
This is the payoff for the entire Sons of Hodir quest chain. Every quest you completed since They Took Our Men! at K3 was part of Loken’s plan. Here’s what actually happened:
| Victim | Fate | Where You Deal With It |
|---|---|---|
| Thorim | Imprisoned in Ulduar. Yogg-Saron creates a false Sif illusion to control him, turning him into a corrupted boss encounter. | Ulduar Raid – Thorim encounter. Hard mode (reach him within 3 minutes) triggers “Sif” to appear. When freed, Thorim recognizes you: “Wait… you. I remember you, from the mountains… I…” before the false Sif interrupts and commands him to fight. Defeating him liberates him from Yogg-Saron’s control. |
| Veranus | Captured alive. Loken says he has “special plans for the broodmother.” Ignis the Furnace Master fuses iron plates to her scales, transforming her into Razorscale. | Ulduar Raid – Razorscale encounter (Siege section). The proto-drake you helped Thorim reclaim now must be killed. Her loot table serves as a grim memorial: Veranus’ Bane, Eye of the Broodmother. |
| Loken | Retreats to the Halls of Lightning inside Ulduar. | Halls of Lightning dungeon – Final boss. King Jokkum sends you to kill him and return his tongue via Whatever it Takes!. His death triggers a titan failsafe that summons Algalon the Observer to evaluate whether Azeroth should be re-originated (all life destroyed). |
| You | Loken spares you deliberately: “Why would I destroy my most useful servant?” The player walks away alive, carrying the guilt of having enabled the entire deception. | The emotional weight. You are complicit. Every quest in this chain that felt like progress was actually advancing Loken’s plan. |
Lore Notes
Thorim was previously the guardian of the Terrace of the Makers itself, making this an especially bitter defeat. He left his seat of power to confront Loken, and that power vacuum is exactly what Loken exploited.
Thorim’s overconfidence was seeded throughout the chain. His dialogue at the Terrace (“Loken’s insurrection will soon come to an end”) and his refusal to let you help (“this is personal”) are the words of someone walking into a trap they can’t see.
Thorim thinks it’s Loken’s reckoning. It turns out to be Thorim’s.

Vikstone's War Journal“Loken killed my wife, turned my followers and me against each other. He took away everything I had, but today… that changes,” Thorim said. “Today we reclaim our sacred grounds. Today… Loken dies. Meet me on the bridge near the Temple of Wisdom, just southwest of Ulduar. I will finish this one way or the other. I need you there as a witness. You will not aid me, this is personal.” Then: “After it’s done, send word to Jokkum, King of the Frost Giants. He’s a good friend and will know what to do.”
A witness. That was the whole of the assignment.

He was on the bridge north of the temple with Veranus hovering off his shoulder and Krolmir down at his side.
“I’ve hidden from my destiny long enough. What I must do has never been clearer. Loken must be destroyed by my hand.”
“I’m with you, Thorim.”
“It is time I put an end to my brother’s madness.”
He walked up the span and put his head back.
“LOKEN! Stand up and fight me, you worthless traitor!”
Loken came out of the air and knocked him the length of the bridge before he had finished saying it, then came down after him.
“You seem eager to join your beloved Sif, brother.”
I have watched a great many fights. That one I could not follow. Krolmir came up off the stone and kept coming, and Loken went backward toward the center of the temple giving up ground.
“Do not dare.” A blow. “Speak.” Another. “Her name!”
“ENOUGH!”
He stopped his brother with a word and stood there breathing.
“Looks like you can still best me in a fair fight, little brother.” He got his feet properly under him. “Unfortunately for you… this fight is anything but fair!”
Something came out of his hands that was neither lightning nor shadow, and the ground opened under Thorim and took hold of him, and two Runeforged Servants stepped out of nothing at all.
I had the claymore half drawn.
“Thanks to your little friend,” Loken said, and he was looking directly at me while he said it, “you’ve left the Temple of Storms, where you were at your strongest. Instead we fight closer to my master’s power.”
I stopped moving.
“Minions! Take my brother and his drake to their new dwellings. Make sure the beast makes it alive. I have special plans for the broodmother.”
Veranus went up screaming against chains I could not see the ends of.
Then Loken turned and gave me his full attention for the first time since I came into these mountains.
“As for your life, mortal. I will be generous. After all… why would I destroy my most useful servant? I waited for you for weeks inside that Hyldnir mine.”
Weeks. Standing loose in a slave pit with nobody guarding her.
“The shape wasn’t mine, of course. And had you not been so reckless, you would’ve seen past my illusion. But you came through for me, and for that… I must thank you!”
Then the bridge was empty and I was standing on it with both hands on a weapon nobody had asked me to draw.
“Ach! It’s good to see you, little one,” Jokkum said when I came into Dun Niffelem.
Then he looked at my face, and I told him.
“No… it cannot be. No one can defeat Thorim in single combat. Not a giant, nor a beast… no one! Especially not that coward of a brother of his.”
His fist came down on the arm of the throne.
“On my forefathers’ names, this I swear… Loken will pay for this!”
This one ended with a lesson I would carry to my grave: the face of your ally can hide your deepest enemy. Some reckonings end in victory and some end in chains. And the debt I owed Thorim would be paid in Loken’s blood.
Jokkum swore on his forefathers’ names that Loken would pay, and that meant walking into the Halls of Lightning to collect, which the frost giants intended to see done Whatever it Takes!
