The gorilla and mammoth populations are dense and fast-respawning (two of the most-farmed skinning targets in the expansion), and the gas clouds plug straight into the Dragonblight-Borean circuit, so Engineers can loop through without backtracking.

Main Farming Locations
Adder’s Tongue is the draw, but Sholazar rewards a full circuit: elementals, skinning, and gas clouds all stacked in one zone. Here they are spot by spot, each with coordinates.
Main Locations
Gas Clouds: Steam Cloud & Cinder Cloud (Eternal Water & Fire)
- Steam Cloud motes are rich in Crystallized Fire and Water and appear abundantly near rivers and wetlands.
- Cinder Cloud motes drift around the Savage Thicket in the northwest, less frequent than Steam Clouds but dropping high-value Crystallized Fire. The Shattertusk herds graze the same corner, so skinners with Engineering can work both on one loop.
- Sholazar is a critical node in the Dragonblight → Borean Tundra → Sholazar cloud-circuit. Excellent for engineers using the Zapthrottle Mote Extractor.
Eternal Life, Earth, Air, and Water Elementals for Multi-Activity Farming
- Eternal Life Location: Spawn points in central Sholazar Basin in a circular zone around River’s Heart
Farm Eternal Life by killing Servant of Freya lashers in this prime spot. - Kill the plant-like Servant of Freya lashers for Crystallized Life
- Some Servants of Freya around the lake are friendly and can’t be attacked. Move along the ring until you find the hostile ones.
- Herbalists can harvest additional Crystallized Life and other herbs
- Eternal Earth Locations: Spawn point just east of the Lifeblood Pillar at (67.6, 59.2) and spawn point in easternmost Sholazar Basin at (80.4, 54.4) at the Maker’s Overlook
- Kill Lifeblood Elemental mobs at Lifeblood Pillar for Crystallized Earth. They can also be mined for the same
- Kill and mine Sholazar Guardian mobs further east at the Maker’s Overlook toward the mountains for Crystallized Earth
- Eternal Air and Water Locations: Spawn point along zone border west of the Maker’s Perch at (25.4, 38). Storm Revenants and Aqueous Spirits share this strip of the western border, dropping Crystallized Air and Water side by side.
- Kill Storm Revenant elementals for Crystallized Air
- Kill Aqueous Spirit elementals for Crystallized Water
Herbalism: Adder’s Tongue (Open-World Exclusive)
- Adder’s Tongue grows in the open world only in Sholazar Basin (also drops inside Drak’Tharon Keep, Gundrak, and Ulduar).
- High Inscription demand, and because the entire open-world supply comes from one zone, prices stay high all expansion. The best long-term herb investment in Northrend.
Hardknuckle Charger Gorilla Farms (Great Skinning and AoE XP Grinding)
- Locations: Spawn points along southeastern Sholazar Basin, around and east of Frenzyheart Hill at (60.6, 70.3), and eastward
- North of Nesingwary Camp (25, 60)
- Sholazar Basin is ripe with beasts all around here.
- Around River’s Heart (48.7, 55.7)
- East of Frenzyheart Hill (60.6, 70.3)
- Kill Hardknuckle Charger gorilla mobs for Chilled Meat and skin for Borean Leather and Arctic Fur
- Beware of their Charge ability, which brings them quickly within melee range
- North of Nesingwary Camp (25, 60)
- Drops: Chilled Meat, Borean Leather, Arctic Fur. Packs are dense and fast-respawning, ideal for AoE classes.
Shattertusk Mammoth Farming (Northern Sholazar)
- Locations: Spawn points in northern Sholazar Basin at three main spots: west of the Savage Thicket (41.4, 30.8), Glimmering Pillar (51, 42.4), and southeast of the Savage Thicket (55.8, 34.2)
- Kill Shattertusk Mammoth mobs for Chunk o’ Mammoth and skin for Borean Leather and Arctic Fur
- Kill Shattertusk Bull and Shattertusk Calf for the same
- Target Materials: Chunk o’ Mammoth for specialized cooking recipes
- Uses: Mammoth Meal crafting + Great Feast components + Spiced Mammoth Treats (Death Knight ghouls). These are among the best foods in WotLK, especially for raid groups
- Huge amounts of gold can be made per hour. High demand for raids keeps meat prices stable.
Profession Pairings
- Skinning + Herbalism: gorillas and mammoths are everywhere, and Adder’s Tongue fills the gaps between pulls. The highest-volume pairing for Sholazar.
- Engineering + Skinning or Herbalism: Engineering is required for gas cloud extraction (Zapthrottle Mote Extractor). Pair it with whichever gathering profession matches your farming focus.
- Mining: Sholazar is the second-densest Saronite zone in Northrend, behind only Icecrown, and the flat terrain makes the laps fast. Titanium is nearly absent here, so chase that in Icecrown and the Storm Peaks. Worth running if you aren’t committed to Skinning or Herbalism, but you’ll miss the zone’s strongest resources.
Market Timing
- Adder’s Tongue: open-world exclusive to Sholazar, and Inscription consumes herbs all expansion, so prices stay high.
- Gas Cloud materials: Crystallized Fire, Water, and Air sell steadily across all phases, with early expansion the most profitable window.
- Saronite Ore: Second only to Icecrown in vein density, and farmable here without fighting the endgame crowds. Sell raw during profession rushes, or bank it for the prospecting shuffle once raid-phase gem demand ramps up.
- Arctic Fur + Chunk o’ Mammoth: Arctic Fur feeds Leatherworking, and Chunk o’ Mammoth feeds the top cooking recipes. Both hold value all expansion.
Gathering Circuits
In-zone, run a skinning rotation between the southern gorilla camps and the northern mammoth herds. If both are contested, Borean Tundra rhinos are the fallback.
Sholazar is also a key node in the cross-zone gas cloud loop (Dragonblight → Borean Tundra (Geyser Fields) → Sholazar → repeat) and connects into the herb route toward Zul’Drak and Dragonblight for Talandra’s Rose and Goldclover.

Skinning Route: Rotate between the gorilla camps in southern Sholazar and mammoth herds in the north. If both are contested, Borean Tundra rhinos are a fallback.
Preparation
- Craft your Zapthrottle Mote Extractor (TBC Engineering quest) before you start gas cloud farming.
- Set up a macro to toggle Find Herbs and Find Minerals if you’re running Mining + Herbalism.

Steam Cloud motes near rivers and wetlands throughout Sholazar Basin yield Crystallized Fire and Crystallized Water via Zapthrottle Mote Extractor. Critical node in Dragonblight → Borean Tundra → Sholazar cloud-farming circuit for engineers.
Cinder Cloud motes throughout Sholazar Basin yield high-value Crystallized Fire via Zapthrottle Mote Extractor. Less frequent spawns than Steam Cloud motes but essential for Eternal Fire. Part of multi-zone cloud-farming circuit for engineers.
Servant of Freya lashers in central Sholazar Basin around River’s Heart drop Crystallized Life for Eternal Life. Herbalists can harvest additional Crystallized Life from corpses.
Lifeblood Elemental at (67.6, 59.2) near Lifeblood Pillar and Sholazar Guardian at (80.4, 54.4) at Maker’s Overlook drops Crystallized Earth. Both are mineable for bonus earth materials. Dual-purpose farming for Eternal Earth.
Storm Revenant mobs along the western zone border near Maker’s Perch (25.4, 38) drop Crystallized Air for Eternal Air. Shares spawn area with Aqueous Spirit (Crystallized Water). Dual elemental farming location for air and water materials.

Tiger Lily herbs, found along bodies of water, are at these various spots. It is used for many useful elixirs.
