What this guide covers
Dragonblight sits in the center of Northrend, which makes it the natural hub for circuit farming: the gas cloud loop into Borean Tundra and Sholazar Basin starts here. But the zone stands on its own too: gas clouds for three Eternal types, with revenants adding a fourth; Jormungar caves for Worm Meat and scales; fast-respawning elemental spots; and solid Saronite veins in the west.
You can farm it locally or use it as the launch point for longer cross-zone runs.

Every farm below works standalone, and several chain into the cross-zone circuits covered further down.
Main Locations
Gas Cloud Circuit Hub for Eternal Air, Water, and Fire
- Arctic Cloud: Give Crystallized Air + Crystallized Water. Turn a set of 10 into an Eternal variant.
- Location: Multiple roaming spawns zone-wide. See the Arctic Cloud map in Farming Maps & Coordinates below.
- Cinder Cloud: Give Crystallized Fire (limited spawn locations overall)
- Location: The clouds are near the Obsidian Dragonshrine, south of the Wrathgate, at (36.7, 31.7). It is along the eastern border of Wintergrasp.
- This is the perfect starting point for Dragonblight → Borean Tundra (plenty of Steam Cloud motes in the Geyser Field) → Sholazar Basin circuit
- Engineers: Dragonblight is the launch point of the gas cloud circuit, clouds respawn while you travel between zones (more on the full loop below).
Arctic Fur and Icy Dragonscale Farming at Moonrest Gardens (Western Dragonblight)
- Location: Around (21.6, 51.6), targeting Dragonblight Mage Hunter and Moonrest Stalker mobs, the blue dragonflight’s skinnable hunters prowling the highborne ruins.
- Drops: Icy Dragonscale from skinning at roughly a 15 percent rate, plus Borean Leather and the usual rare chance at Arctic Fur. Scale demand comes from Leatherworking leg armors and frost resistance sets.
Jormungar Farming in Northern Dragonblight
- Location: Northern Dragonblight (≈ 52.8, 25.8), in the Jormungar cave zone.
- Kill Jormungar Tunneler mobs to obtain Jormungar Scale and Worm Meat
- Skinning them can give Arctic Fur and Borean Leather
- Materials: Jormungar Scale, Worm Meat; skin for Arctic Fur and Borean Leather.
- This is accessible to mid-level alts; scale demand rises into ICC tier, worm meat remains essential for Great Feasts (useful in early WotLK and casual raids).
Cobalt and Saronite Mining (Zone Rim and Western Half)
Location: Veins spawn along the rocky perimeter and the ridgelines that box the zone in, so circle the rim rather than crossing the open snowfield. The western half of the zone, from Icemist Village down along the Wintergrasp border, is where the first Saronite Deposits appear among the Cobalt.
Dragonblight is one of the four densest Cobalt zones in Northrend, and the ore comes in both regular and Rich Cobalt Deposits (Mining 350 and 375). Demand peaks hard in the early weeks while Blacksmiths, Engineers, and Jewelcrafters rush their skill-ups, so sell into that window.
The western Saronite pocket needs Mining 400 and pays a bonus on the same loop: those veins sit within flying distance of the Obsidian Dragonshrine Cinder Cloud spawn, so miners with Engineering can work both on one pass along the Wintergrasp border.
The honest truth: Dragonblight Saronite is a leveling bonus, and this is not a volume Saronite zone. Best AoE Leveling Spot for Grinding XP
- The Carrion Fields (Beneath Naxxramas)
- Enter the Wintergarde Mausoleum crypt at (85.8, 50) and walk underground to the deepest part of the area (83.1, 54.5).
- Target: Dreadbone Constructs (Level 72), excellent XP gains, particularly for AoE Paladins.
Eternal Shadow and Water Locations
- Location for Eternal Shadow: Go to northern Dragonblight at (74.8, 22), west of Light’s Trust.
- Kill Deathbringer Revenant elementals for Crystallized Shadow
- They respawn fast
- Location for Eternal Water: Go to mid-Dragonblight at Mirror of Dawn (68, 53.4), east of Wyrmrest Temple
- Kill Ice Revenant elementals for Crystallized Water

- Skinning + Tailoring: Arctic Fur + Frostweave Cloth from humanoids.
- Northern Cloth Scavenging: Additional cloth bonus in WotLK

- Mining + Gas Cloud Farming: Optimize time during cloud respawn intervals
Market Timing
Dragonblight stays busy all expansion thanks to the Wrathgate questline and Wyrmrest dailies, which keeps demand steady for everything farmed here.
- Early expansion: Cobalt Ore sells high while players rush professions, and the western Saronite veins add higher-tier ore to the same loop.
- Mid to late expansion: Jormungar Scales and Arctic Fur hold their value.
- All phases: Gas cloud components (Crystallized Air, Water, Fire) stay in demand because crafters always need them.
Farming Challenges:
- The Wrathgate quest area and Wyrmrest hub get crowded during peak hours.
- If Jormungar caves are contested, move to Storm Peaks, which has more spawn points.
Gas Cloud Circuit Route
Dragonblight is the anchor of the main gas cloud loop: from here you run to Borean Tundra (Geyser Fields), then Sholazar Basin, and back, hitting Steam Clouds in Borean Tundra and Sholazar plus the Arctic and rare Cinder Clouds here, while travel time lets everything respawn.

Route: Dragonblight → Borean Tundra (Geyser Fields) → Sholazar Basin → back to Dragonblight, if your faction does not control Wintergrasp.
What to Stockpile
- Hold Jormungar Scales for the ICC phase when demand spikes.
- Keep any Saronite Ore for gem prospecting rather than selling raw. Your Dragonblight haul will be mostly Cobalt, and the volume Saronite lives in Sholazar Basin, Icecrown, and the Storm Peaks.
- Crystallized Fire is especially profitable early on. Sell it, don’t sit on it.
Preparation
- Craft your Zapthrottle Mote Extractor (TBC Engineering item) before you start gas cloud routes.
- Set up a macro to toggle between Find Herbs and Find Minerals.
- When your faction controls Wintergrasp, fold it into your farming loop.
Farming Maps & Coordinates
Cinder Cloud motes near Obsidian Dragonshrine (36.7, 31.7) south of Wrathgate yield Crystallized Fire via Zapthrottle Mote Extractor. Limited but high value spawn location. It has a strategic position for multi-zone farming circuits through Borean Tundra (Geyser Fields) and is right along the eastern border of Wintergrasp, close to the Cauldron of Flames goldmine spot with motes and elementals.
Arctic Cloud motes throughout Dragonblight yield Crystallized Air and Crystallized Water via Zapthrottle Mote Extractor. Multiple spawn locations across the zone. Combine 10 Crystallized into Eternal Air or Eternal Water.
Dragonblight Mage Hunter and Moonrest Stalker mobs at (21.6, 51.6) in western Dragonblight drop Icy Dragonscale, Borean Leather when skinned, and a chance for Arctic Fur. High demand for Leatherworking recipes and mount crafting throughout WotLK.
Jormungar Tunneler mobs in northern Dragonblight cave (52.8, 25.8) drop Jormungar Scales and Worm Meat. Skin for Arctic Fur and Borean Leather. Accessible for leveling alts, with scale demand increasing through ICC tier. Worm Meat is essential for Great Feast.
Dreadbone Construct mobs in Carrion Fields beneath Wintergarde Mausoleum (enter at 85.8, 50; farm at 83.1, 54.5) provide excellent AoE grinding XP at around level 72. Particularly effective for AoE-spec Paladins. Dense spawns for efficient leveling.
Deathbringer Revenant mobs at (74.8, 22) west of Light’s Trust in northern Dragonblight drop Crystallized Shadow for Eternal Shadow. Fast respawn rates make this nice for farming for high-demand shadow crafting materials.
Ice Revenant mobs at Mirror of Dawn (68, 53.4) east of Wyrmrest Temple in mid-Dragonblight drop Crystallized Water for Eternal Water. Convenient location for water elemental farming.
