The Weight of Thunderfall
Thunderfall is a frozen crime scene where Thorim’s grief-fueled rage killed King Arngrim and everyone around him. The frozen fossils of giants and frost dwarves are still visible in the crater, locked in the moment of their deaths for centuries.
When King Jokkum asks you to collect horn fragments from Thunderfall in the side quest In Memoriam, he’s asking you to retrieve pieces of his people’s history from the site of their greatest tragedy.
Jokkum’s revelation that his father (King Arngrim) used his dying moment to preserve Krolmir with a protective rune is a powerful detail. Arngrim didn’t spend his final act cursing Thorim or fleeing. He secured the weapon of the god who was killing him, ensuring it wouldn’t fall into enemy hands.
That act of selflessness in the face of betrayal is what ultimately makes reconciliation possible.
Thorim Kneels
This is the only time in WotLK that a titan-forged Keeper kneels before a mortal race. Thorim, a being of near-godlike power, gets on his knees before King Jokkum.
Thorim is asking forgiveness for the murder of Jokkum’s father and the centuries of suffering that followed. And Jokkum grants it, declaring the events of “that dark day” forgiven and never to be spoken of again.
Krolmir and Mjolnir
Krolmir is WoW’s version of Mjolnir, Thor’s legendary hammer from Norse mythology. The parallels run deep: both are lightning-associated weapons of immense destructive power wielded by storm gods.
Thorim’s description of throwing Krolmir “with all the power and rage I possessed” and the resulting explosion mirrors how Mjolnir was described in Norse texts as a weapon capable of leveling mountains.
Thorim, having thought Krolmir lost for centuries, only to reclaim it at a moment of reconciliation, parallels various mythological moments where divine weapons are returned to their rightful owners as a precursor to a final battle.
The Tragic Irony
Thorim now has everything he needs to challenge Loken: his reforged armor, his mount Veranus, his hammer Krolmir, and the alliance of the frost giants.
His completion dialogue says “Words cannot express my gratitude… You have served me honorably.” He seems invincible. But this is the cruelest part of Loken’s trap.
Every step of this chain, from the Hyldsmeet to this moment, was engineered by Loken (disguised as Lok’lira) to lure Thorim away from the Temple of Storms, where his power is greatest. The next quest, The Terrace of the Makers, begins Thorim’s march toward The Reckoning, where everything falls apart.

Vikstone's War Journal“One task remains before I can reclaim my home at the Terrace of the Makers. Krolmir must be found,” Thorim said. “On that fateful day, I threw it to the earth with all the power and rage I possessed. A mighty explosion followed. I’ve thought it lost for these many years, but now I must be certain. Return to King Jokkum and discover what, if anything, he knows of my hammer’s fate.”

I put it to Jokkum as formally as I know how. “If it please you, King Jokkum, may I know what has become of Krolmir?”
“I do not trust you enough to speak of such things.”
That was the first plain refusal anyone in these mountains had given me. So I went and did more work, and came back, and asked again.
“Very well, little warrior. While there is much left for you to do to mend our relations with Thorim, I am compelled to share with you this one secret.” He put a hand down flat. “Hold on, little night elf.”
I rode a king’s shoulder to Thunderfall. He set me down in the middle of the crater from a height he evidently considered reasonable, and I got up out of the snow.
Thunderfall is a hole in the world where a hammer landed. Nothing grows in it. There is no scorching and no rubble and nothing at all to suggest fire, only a depression the size of a village, put there in one motion by a man who was upset.
“Thorim! Come, show yourself!”
He came down on Veranus, stepped off her back, and went to one knee in front of the giant.
“The deeds of your night elf servant defy his stature, Stormlord. His efforts have succeeded in softening the hearts of my people.”
“Jokkum, son of Arngrim,” Thorim said, still down on the knee. “I have always regretted my actions here. In my grief, I brought great harm to those closest to me.”
“The events of that dark day are hereby forgiven by my people. They shall never again be spoken of. To signify our reforged friendship, I have something which belongs to you…”
The ice opened in the floor of the crater and Krolmir came up out of it, and the centuries had taken nothing off it at all.
“As the great explosion filled the region, my father cast a rune at the great hammer that it might not be had by our enemies. It was his final act.”
Arngrim. The friend Thorim accused. The king Thorim made war on. Dying, in a war he had not started and had done nothing to earn. He spent the last of himself on a ward to keep anyone else from lifting Thorim’s hammer.
Thorim took it up. His hand closed on the haft.
“Krolmir… I thank you, Jokkum. I hadn’t dared hope it still existed. It shall soon see glorious battle once again!”
“We welcome the opportunity to fight by your side, mighty Thorim. I must return to Dun Niffelem. We shall speak again soon, Stormlord.”
Then, to me: “Words cannot express my gratitude. You have served me honorably.”
Thorim had his armor, his drake, his hammer, and the frost giants at his back, which was everything he needed and exactly what Loken had been waiting for, and the march started at The Terrace of the Makers.
