Quest Giver: Thorim — Temple of Storms, Storm Peaks [33.4, 57.9]

Objective: Place the Stolen Proto-Dragon Eggs on Veranus‘s nest and return to Thorim.

Walkthrough

Place the Eggs

• Fly southeast from the Temple of Storms to the Broodmother’s Nest [38.7, 65.5]. The nest is on a small peak and is its own labeled sub-area on the map, so you’ll know you’re in the right spot.
• Right-click the nest object to place the Stolen Proto-Dragon Eggs. You can mount up immediately after placing them.

Watch the Event

• After placing the eggs, a scripted sequence begins:
  1. Veranus lets out a bellowing roar and descends on the nest, landing in the center. She’s massive compared to the proto-drakes you’ve been seeing around the zone.
  2. Thorim yells “Look out below!” and spawns above Veranus, landing on her back.
  3. Thorim says: “Easy there, girl! Don’t you recognize your old master?”
  4. Thorim says: “I will see you at the Temple of Storms. Looks like I’m going to have to break her in again.”
  5. Thorim and Veranus fly off together and despawn.
• Stay in the area until the full sequence completes. Leaving early may prevent the quest from updating.

Turn In

• Fly back to Thorim at the Temple of Storms [33, 58]. He’s thrilled: “It’s good to have my old friend back. It appears that my luck is finally starting to change.”

Efficiency Tips

• The event is short (under a minute). Mount up after placing the eggs and hover nearby. There’s no reason to stay on the ground where hatchlings or wyrms might aggro.
• If another player just triggered the event, you may need to wait for the nest to reset before placing your own eggs. This typically takes about a minute.
• Raid group check: As with the previous quests in this chain, being in a raid group can prevent the quest from completing. Leave any group before attempting.

Lore Context

Thorim’s line about getting Veranus under control “before she kills you in a fit of rage” is played for humor, but there’s genuine danger implied.

Veranus is the broodmother of all the proto-drakes in the Storm Peaks. You just placed foreign eggs in her empty nest, triggering her fiercely territorial instincts. Without Thorim’s intervention, she would absolutely destroy you.

Thorim’s reunion with Veranus is the last genuinely happy moment in this questline. From here, the chain accelerates toward the confrontation with Loken, and everything goes wrong. Thorim reclaims his armor, his drake, and his hammer, only for all of it to be ripped away again during The Reckoning.

The fact that Veranus ends up as Razorscale in Ulduar makes this brief moment of triumph even more painful in hindsight.

Note Thorim’s completion dialogue: “It appears that my luck is finally starting to change… and it’s all thanks to you, little friend.”

Loken has been orchestrating everything from the beginning, and Thorim is walking into a trap. The entire Sons of Hodir chain, from K3 all the way to The Reckoning, was part of Loken’s plan to lure Thorim away from the Temple of Storms, where he’s at his most powerful.
