Quest Giver: Creteus — Foot Steppes, near the Engine of the Makers [40, 60]

Objective: Locate Norgannon’s Core inside the Frigid Tomb.

Walkthrough

Context

• While you were investigating the temples, Creteus met with Brann Bronzebeard and was persuaded that Brann’s purpose for seeking the keystone is legitimate. He now reveals the location of Norgannon’s Core in the Frigid Tomb to the southeast.

Enter the Frigid Tomb

• The cave entrance is at [42, 62], directly south of Creteus’s position near the Engine of the Makers. It’s visible on the minimap.
• The cave is populated by Icebound Revenants (ice elementals). Clear them as you go, or dodge around them if you can.

Navigate to the Bottom

• When the path splits inside the cave, take the downward slope to reach the deepest chamber.
• At the back of the cave around [45, 65], you’ll find The Guardian’s Charge, a chest containing Norgannon’s Core. It’s guarded by the Eternal Watcher, a level 80 ice revenant.

Defeat the Eternal Watcher and Open the Chest

• The Eternal Watcher is a straightforward fight. It’s a standard level 80 mob with ~12,600 HP), so most classes can handle it solo without trouble.
• After defeating the Eternal Watcher, interact with The Guardian’s Charge to open it. The completion text fires when you open the chest, describing the air rushing out and Norgannon’s Core resting at the bottom, undisturbed by the ages.

Post-Completion: Phase Change

• Completing this quest triggers a significant phase change. War breaks out between the Frostborn and the Stormforged iron dwarves in the surrounding area, and a Frostborn Axemaster companion will begin following you as an NPC ally for the next leg of the chain.

Efficiency Tips

• The cave is short and direct. The entire quest takes just a few minutes once you know the path.
• Don’t waste time fighting every revenant in the cave. You only need to kill the Eternal Watcher and open the chest.
• Five Emblems of Heroism is an unusually large reward for a solo quest. Don’t skip this one.

Lore Context

Norgannon’s Core is a titan keystone, part of the same artifact series as Norgannon’s Shell retrieved earlier in the chain. Norgannon was the titan Keeper of Celestial Magics and Lore, the same titan who empowered both Mimiron and Loken. Brann Bronzebeard needs this keystone to access the deeper secrets of Ulduar.

Creteus describes Brann as potentially “the entity for which the keystone was created,” suggesting the titan watchers anticipated that a curious mortal explorer would one day need access to Ulduar’s mysteries.

This is a nice narrative thread given Brann’s later role leading the first expedition into the Ulduar raid.

Note that Creteus did not accept the signet ring or the temple survey as sufficient. He arranged his own parley with Brann while you were away and formed his own judgment, which is why the answer comes now rather than earlier.
