Objective: Use the Charged Disk to summon Archivist Mechaton. Defeat him and recover Norgannon’s Shell.

Walkthrough

Use the Charged Disk

• After completing The Library Console, the console itself charges your Inventor’s Disk and gives you this quest automatically.
• Right-click the Charged Disk while standing near the console inside the Inventor’s Library at [37.4, 46.8].
• Important: Use the disk inside the library near the console. It is possible to accidentally activate it outside (even on the patio), which summons Mechaton back at the console instead of on top of you. If you’re not there, another player or mob could interfere with the fight.

Defeat Archivist Mechaton

• Archivist Mechaton is a level 80 mechagnome (Mechanical type) with approximately 12,600 HP.
• He spawns and runs through an RP sequence: he detects the disk’s use, scans you, attempts to verify your identity as Keeper Mimir (Mimiron’s nickname), and stuns you briefly when the scan fails.
• After declaring you an impostor, he attacks. He’s a standard-difficulty fight for a level 77-80 character, nothing to worry about for geared players.
• Clear nearby Library Guardians before activating the disk to avoid adds during the fight.

Loot the Shell

• Norgannon’s Shell is a guaranteed drop from Mechaton. Loot it immediately.
• If the shell doesn’t appear (rare bug), abandon and reacquire the quest, then resummon Mechaton.

Turn In to Brann

• Use Brann’s Communicator from your inventory to summon Brann Bronzebeard on the spot.
• If you’ve lost the communicator: Alliance players can get a replacement from Archaeologist Andorin at Frosthold. Horde players can replace it through Moteha Windborn at Grom’arsh Crash-Site.

Efficiency Tips

• Do Alongside: While in the Inventor’s Library area, pick up the SCRAP-E Access Card from Library Guardians outside. This starts the side quest SCRAP-E, which leads to The Prototype Console, teaching Engineers the Scrapbot Construction Kit schematic (a repair/reagent bot useful for dungeons and raids).
• Communicator Tip: Don’t discard Brann’s Communicator after this quest. You’ll continue using it for the next steps in the chain.

Lore & Secrets

Norgannon and the Keystone

Norgannon is the Titan Keeper of Celestial Magics and Lore, the master of arcane knowledge within the Pantheon. He imbued his intellect and mastery of magic into two titan-forged Keepers: Loken and Mimiron.

Norgannon’s Shell is the first half of Norgannon’s Keystone, an archive key needed to access deeper titan knowledge. The second half, Norgannon’s Core, is the target of the follow-up quests. This two-piece key mirrors the Discs of Norgannon, Norgannon’s other major legacy on Azeroth.

When Sargeras destroyed the Pantheon’s physical bodies, Norgannon wove a protective shroud around their souls in his final moments, saving the entire Pantheon from permanent death. This act is arguably the most consequential single spell in Warcraft history.

Keeper Mimir = Mimiron

Archivist Mechaton attempts to verify the player as “Keeper Mimir,” which is Mimiron’s informal name (referenced by NPCs throughout the Storm Peaks, including at Mimir’s Workshop [33.7, 39.4]). The library and its mechagnome staff originally answered to Mimiron before Loken’s corruption threw everything into chaos.

Easter Eggs

SCRAP-E, the mechagnome found inside the library, is a reference to Pixar’s WALL-E (2008). Both are small robots who work with scrap materials. The timing is fitting: WALL-E released in June 2008, and WotLK launched in November 2008.

Cross-Expansion Connections

Norgannon’s Legacy Across WoW

• Classic (Uldaman): The Discs of Norgannon stored in Uldaman contained the true history of the titan-forged. Keeper Tyr and Archaedas stole them from Ulduar to protect them from Loken, and the Lore Keeper of Norgannon presided over them.
• WotLK (Halls of Stone): After Tyr stole the originals, Loken created the Tribunal of Ages as a falsified replacement. Brann Bronzebeard accesses it during the dungeon, revealing the Curse of Flesh and dwarven origins.
• WotLK (Ulduar): The Lore Keeper of Norgannon also appears at Ulduar’s Expedition Base Camp, where activating him triggers hard mode for the Flame Leviathan encounter.
• Legion: Norgannon himself appears at the Seat of the Pantheon during the Antorus, the Burning Throne raid, having been restored alongside the other Titans.

Exploring Azeroth: Northrend

• Post-Shadowlands, the Bronzebeard brothers revisit the Inventor’s Library. Brann knows how to operate the consoles, but the Library Guardians inform them they still lack proper authorization.
