Walkthrough

Get the Quest from Drom

• You receive this quest from Drom Frostgrip in the back of Frostgrip’s Hollow, after turning in An Experienced Guide. Drom explains that the iron dwarves stole his signet ring, and you’ll need it as proof of introduction when meeting the titan watcher Creteus.

Trigger the Stormforged Monitor (Scripted Encounter)

• This is not a normal mob spawn. The Stormforged Monitor appears as a scripted event when you approach a specific area of the cave.
• From Drom’s room, head toward the only exit and take a left at the first fork. As you approach the ledge area around [25.6, 68.2], the Monitor jumps down from above, accompanied by a Stormforged Eradicator.
• The Monitor delivers a short RP speech before attacking: it demands you hand over any titan core in your possession, then announces your “elimination.” Classic iron dwarf charm.
• A Frostborn Axemaster immediately jumps in to help you, sent by King Stormheart. The Axemaster focuses on the Eradicator, leaving you to handle the Monitor.

Loot the Ring

• Kill the Stormforged Monitor and loot Frostgrip’s Signet Ring.
• Group note: The ring is only lootable by one player per kill. If you’re in a group, each member must trigger and kill their own Monitor. After the corpse despawns (roughly 2 minutes), the encounter can be triggered again by another player with the quest approaching the same area.

Fly to Creteus

• Head east over the mountains to the Foot Steppes. Creteus is a titan watcher (a large stone construct) standing near the Engine of the Makers at [40, 60].
• His completion dialogue implies concern for Drom, noting that Drom would normally introduce visitors in person. This foreshadows events later in the chain.

Efficiency Tips

• If you still need kills for Unwelcome Guests, the Stormforged Monitor counts as a Stormforged Invader kill.
• Some report a second Monitor spawn outside the cave entrance. If you missed the scripted interior encounter for any reason, check just outside as well.
• Don’t camp a single spot waiting for a respawn. The encounter is proximity-triggered, not timer-based. If the Monitor doesn’t appear, move out of the area and approach again.

Lore Context

Creteus is a titanic watcher (sometimes called a “keeper” in older quest text, before Blizzard standardized the terminology). He’s been keeping watch over the Engine of the Makers, one of the titan facilities in the Storm Peaks, and maintains contact with the Frostborn through Drom.

His dialogue hints at how rare it’s become for mortals to approach titan-forged peacefully rather than with weapons drawn.

Creteus’s story takes a grim turn later in the chain. During Fury of the Frostborn King, the iron dwarves overwhelm and kill him. Brann Bronzebeard mourns his loss, commenting that completing his duty was all Creteus ever cared about.

The quest’s name, “The Lonesome Watcher,” refers to Creteus himself, standing solitary vigil over the Engine of the Makers while the titan-forged world crumbles around him.
