Walkthrough
After turning in Norgannon’s Shell, summon Brann via the communicator. He offers this breadcrumb alongside Aid from the Explorer’s League (which sends you to Frosthold). Fly northwest to Bouldercrag’s Refuge at [30.4, 36.7], on a ledge above the Snowdrift Plains, southwest of the Temple of Wisdom. The entrance is built into the mountain face.
Pick up the flight path here. This is a hub you’ll return to repeatedly for the entire Iron Colossus chain.

Brann’s quest text explains the situation: Loken sent his iron dwarf army on a campaign against “all the creatures of stone,” expelling the earthen from Ulduar. Bouldercrag led the survivors to this titan building on the mountainside. Their numbers are severely thinned, with many killed in the retreat and their craftsmen forced to become warriors out of necessity.
Bouldercrag is the last surviving forge master of his model line. The “Bouldercrag models” once numbered twenty, all overseeing the Forge of Wills for the titans. He’s an early-generation earthen whose close contact with the titans gave him more mental sophistication than typical earthen, making him suited for leadership and diplomacy.
The Forge of Wills is the same facility Creteus identified as the source of Loken’s iron dwarf army on Fury of the Frostborn King. The machine Bouldercrag was built to run is now mass-producing the soldiers hunting him.
The earthen are neutral. Despite their alliance with Brann, he deliberately avoids pressuring them to join the Alliance, recognizing their weakened state. Bouldercrag’s completion text reflects this mutual respect: “So you know Brann Bronzebeard, then? He is our closest ally among those of the flesh.”
Cross-Expansion: In Battle for Azeroth, Bouldercrag travels to Thelsamar and then the Great Forge in Ironforge to help Brann with a ritual extending a dwarf adventurer’s Stoneform, using a variant of the same process that turned Magni into diamond.

Face. Present tense. I have given up correcting anybody about Loken, since it does not appear to make the slightest difference to anything still happening in these mountains.
The earthen.
Bouldercrag’s Refuge is a titan building set into a mountain face west of the library, and the earthen inside it are not soldiers. They were made to build things. They are holding a door.
“So you know Brann Bronzebeard, then? He is our closest ally among those of the flesh. We are as brothers in the struggle against Loken and his followers, in the struggle for Ulduar.”
Bouldercrag was made to oversee the Forge of Wills. Twenty of his model were, and he is the last of the twenty, and the forge he was built to run is the thing turning out the army that put him on this mountainside.
He asked whether I knew Brann Bronzebeard, and when I said I did, that appeared to settle the question of what I was.
The earthen had a forge master with no forge and a refuge they could not hold much longer. The first thing Bouldercrag needed was something to work with, which meant going out after Rare Earth.
