“Like Bouldercrag, I once served the keepers as a craftsman in Ulduar, but with Loken’s betrayal, I turned my hammer toward our new foes. When we could spare the men, I led raids on Nidavelir to relieve the pressure on our defenders, but our lines are near collapse. You’ve proven yourself a capable combatant and a staunch ally.
Perhaps you’d be willing to take up our banner and take the fight to Nidavelir, the iron dwarf stronghold to the southwest, across the Snowdrift Plains.”

Lore & Context
Bruor Ironbane is Bouldercrag’s second-in-command, an earthen warrior who traded his craftsman’s hammer for a weapon after Loken’s betrayal. His quest text reveals he once led raids on Nidavelir when the earthen could spare the soldiers, but they can no longer sustain offensive operations. You’re doing the job his war parties used to handle.
Bruor plays a larger role later in the chain. During the Valduran the Stormborn fight, he joins you in combat and grants a powerful buff called “Iron’s Bane” that reduces your spell/ability costs by 50% and increases damage dealt by 25%.

Vikstone's War Journal“Like Bouldercrag, I once served the keepers as a craftsman in Ulduar, but with Loken’s betrayal, I turned my hammer toward our new foes,” Bruor said. “When we could spare the men, I led raids on Nidavelir to relieve the pressure on our defenders, but our lines are near collapse.”

When we could spare the men.
“You’ve proven yourself a capable combatant and a staunch ally. Perhaps you’d be willing to take up our banner and take the fight to Nidavelir, the iron dwarf stronghold to the southwest, across the Snowdrift Plains.”
He has no banner. He has a refuge with a door in it and about forty men who used to make things, and he asked me to carry his colors as though there were a column behind me.
I said yes. There is a way of asking that I have never once been able to refuse, and it is not the desperate way.
Ten of them out of Nidavelir.
The war golems were the trouble. They are slow and they hit like a falling wall, and what comes off the fist stays in you and keeps working for a good while after the blow itself. I took one Storm Punch across the ribs early and spent the rest of the afternoon with something crawling underneath the plate there. After that I fought them on the ice on the eastern approach and let their own weight do the arguing.
The magi are made lighter and go down faster, and they burn you for every second it takes to get to them.
The champions are the ones built to fight. One of them met my overhead swing with a parry that turned the whole blade and rang off the cliffs behind us. I put a knee into its midsection instead, felt something give in there, and finished it with the pommel while it was folded over.
“Have you taken the hammer to the irons at Nidavelir?” Bruor said when I came back in. “There may be hope for victory. We have never been able to sustain an attack on the stormforged, but with your efforts, Valduran may yet fall!”
The hammer. That is the word he uses for it, and he has used it for both trades now, and I do not think he hears himself doing it.
Bruor allowed himself the word hope, and the thing that made it possible was still lying in the snow where a war golem had dropped it, waiting to be identified as Armor of Darkness.
