Objective: Use the Iron Rune Construct’s Collect Data ability to gather 15 sets of Iron Rune Data from relics at Baelgun’s Excavation Site.

Walkthrough

1. Accept quest from Walt (pick up The Delicate Sound of Thunder at the same time).
2. Right-click the Empty Work Bench to enter the construct.
3. Head to Baelgun’s Excavation Site, due south (around [73, 68]).
4. Jump off the cliff. You take no fall damage in the construct.
5. Look for small blue crystals scattered on the ground throughout the dig site.
6. Approach each crystal and press 1 (Collect Data ability) to gather data.
7. Collect 15 relics total.
8. Use a rune pad to rocket jump back up to the Explorers’ League Outpost.
9. Dismiss the construct from the pet window.
10. Turn in to Walt.

Hazards

Earth Elementals

• Wander throughout the dig site and WILL attack you.
• You cannot fight back while in the construct.
• If spotted, run away or use a rune pad to escape.

Iron Dwarf Suspicion

• Iron dwarves may stop and question your construct.
• When one approaches, use Bluff (ability 3) QUICKLY before they turn hostile.
• Delaying too long results in combat you cannot win.

Best Strategy: The Cave

The most efficient route uses the cave system at the bottom of the excavation:

1. From the top platform, take the middle rune to reach ground level.
2. Head into the cave entrance at the base of the site.
3. The cave contains many relics and no earth elementals.
4. Collect most or all 15 relics inside the cave.
5. While you’re there, complete The Delicate Sound of Thunder by listening to the iron dwarf’s transmission near the titan statue.
6. Exit and use a rune pad to return to the top.

This method lets you complete both quests in one efficient run while avoiding most hazards.

Tips

• Combo Quest: Always do this alongside The Delicate Sound of Thunder. Same location, same construct, no reason not to.
• Fall Damage Immunity: The construct is immune to fall damage. Jump freely off any cliff to escape danger or reposition.
• Rune Pad Navigation: Rune pads are scattered throughout the site. The right rune generally goes down, others go back up. Experiment to learn the network.
• Relics Are Small: The blue crystals are easy to miss. They’re ground-level objects, not large floating relics like the tutorial crystal.
• Don’t Forget the Suit: You must be wearing the construct to collect data. If you somehow exit the vehicle, return to the work bench and re-enter.

Story Context

Walt’s mission briefing reveals the construct’s full capabilities:

“Your construct is ready to go. All abilities have been given a once over and I’ve programmed the machine to both comprehend and speak the language of the titans. Take the construct to Baelgun’s Excavation Site, due south of here, and collect data from the lightning infused relics that litter the site.”

The construct can speak Titan. This is significant because the iron dwarves, created by the corrupted Keeper Loken through the Forge of Wills, use titan-derived technology and language. The relics scattered throughout Baelgun’s contain encoded titan data that only a construct (or something disguised as one) can access.

Upon completion, Walt gloats: “And once again Walt proves that he is indeed the top dwarf! What do you think of my construct now, Lebronski!” Even in triumph, he can’t resist ribbing his rug-obsessed colleague.

Lore Context: Baelgun’s Excavation Site

Baelgun’s Excavation Site was originally an Explorers’ League dig, likely started by Baelgun Flamebeard. The dwarves uncovered something extraordinary: a massive, nearly intact titan statue emerging from the cliff wall. According to Muradin Bronzebeard, the statue is taller than one of Stormwind Keep’s towers.

Then the iron dwarves arrived. These metallic beings, created by the corrupted Keeper Loken using the Forge of Wills, drove out the Explorers’ League and took control of the site. Their orders from Loken: bury the fissures, silence and blind the earth. They’re actively trying to destroy or hide titan artifacts that might reveal uncomfortable truths about the titans’ history on Azeroth.

The data you’re collecting represents the last chance to preserve this knowledge before it’s lost forever.
