“Don’t worry, Vikstone; this is all going to lead to something big! HUGE! You’re just going to have to trust me for now and do as I ask of you. We need to get the mechanism mentioned in the manual for the next step of the plan. I have a strong suspicion that you’ll find one on one of those vrykul that operate the harpoon guns in Wyrmskull Village. You’ll find them on the east side of the village, on the docks by the longhouses.
Take these back to Valgarde. McSorf will know what to do with the find. As for me? I’ll be alright on my own. I’ve gotten this far in one piece!”
-Guard Captain Zorek
Guard Captain Zorek at Valgarde in Howling Fjord wants you to bring him a Harpoon Control Mechanism.

Quest Giver: Guard Captain Zorek at Valgarde
Objective: Obtain a Harpoon Control Mechanism from a Dragonflayer Harpooner.
Quick Facts
Walkthrough
Dragonflayer Harpooners are level 68-69 vrykul found on the EASTERN side of Wyrmskull Village, near the harpoon launchers on the docks by the longhouses. Primary locations reported by players:
The Harpoon Control Mechanism has a very high drop rate.
Return the mechanism to Guard Captain Zorek in Valgarde.
Combat Tips
Dragonflayer Harpooners have two abilities:
They’ll yell combat lines like “Suffer, insect!” and “Your end draws closer!” as they fight.
Approach Tip: If you don’t want to fight through the village, you can swim around the camp from the bay to reach the eastern dock area directly at [60, 52].
Efficiency: Quest Combo
Dragonflayer Harpooners also drop Dragonflayer Cage Keys needed for Prisoners of Wyrmskull. If you have both quests active, you can collect keys while hunting for the mechanism.
Story Context
Guard Captain Zorek is excited about the plan taking shape:
“Don’t worry, <name>; this is all going to lead to something big! HUGE! You’re just going to have to trust me for now and do as I ask of you.”
“We need to get the mechanism mentioned in the manual for the next step of the plan. I have a strong suspicion that you’ll find one on one of those vrykul that operate the harpoon guns in Wyrmskull Village. You’ll find them on the east side of the village, on the docks by the longhouses.”
Upon completion:
“Outstanding! Those overgrown apes will soon know what it means to mess with the Alliance!”
The mechanism is described in the manual as a wheel-like device that “plugs into the harpoon guns like a key,” allowing precise control of the devastating weapons. Soon you’ll use this vrykul technology against them.
Lore Context: Vrykul Harpoon Technology
The vrykul harpoon guns are the primary reason Alliance ships have struggled to establish a foothold in Daggercap Bay. These siege weapons can take down ships from the cliffs overlooking the fjord, giving the Dragonflayer clan a tremendous defensive advantage.
The Harpoon Control Mechanism represents sophisticated vrykul engineering. While vrykul are often portrayed as brutal warriors, their harpoon systems demonstrate they’re also capable craftsmen.
This same technological aptitude is evident throughout Utgarde Keep, where intricate mechanisms and forges rival dwarven craftsmanship.

“Don’t worry. This is all going to lead to something big. HUGE!” Zorek grinned like a man holding winning cards. “You’re just going to have to trust me for now. The harpoon operators were easy to spot. Bigger than the warriors, if that was possible, stationed near the massive bolt-throwers that had been shredding Alliance ships. One of them was adjusting tension on a cable when I came up behind him.
The control mechanism was exactly as the manual described. A wheel-like device, portable, worn at the belt. It clicked free from the corpse’s harness without resistance.
Zorek turned it over in his hands when I returned, still grinning. “Outstanding! Those overgrown apes will soon know what it means to mess with the Alliance!”
Whatever he was planning, it beat wandering Wyrmskull’s ruins looking for tablet recipes.
Zorek had manual and mechanism both and no way to deploy either from where he was standing, so somebody had better go and Meet Lieutenant Icehammer…
