Walkthrough

Lauriel Trueblade sends you to the Ruby Dragonshrine to help the red dragonflight, who are being attacked by both the blue dragonflight and the Scourge simultaneously. She frames this as a rare opportunity to establish an alliance with the red dragons, and she’s already secured a regiment to aid them.

Getting There

• From Wyrmrest Temple, head west-northwest. The Ruby Dragonshrine is located on the western edge of The Dragon Wastes, between Wyrmrest Temple and Agmar’s Hammer. It’s not south of Wyrmrest as you might expect; the quest text itself says “west of Wyrmrest.”
• You’re looking for Ceristrasz specifically on the ridge east of the shrine, which means the elevated ground on the side closest to Wyrmrest. At approximately [52, 50], he’s positioned on the approach between the temple and the shrine itself.
• Ceristrasz is a red dragon (the “-strasz” suffix confirms this). He appears in humanoid form on the ridge overlooking the dragonshrine.

Turn In

• Speak with Ceristrasz. His response acknowledges Lauriel’s aid and underscores how stretched thin the red dragonflight is: they are “fighting battles on far too many fronts.” He was expecting you and is grateful for the help.
• Accept the follow-up quest Heated Battle immediately. This is where the combat begins.

Tips

• The ridge is safe. Ceristrasz’s position on the ridge east of the shrine is deliberately placed outside the active combat zone. You can ride directly from Wyrmrest Temple to his location without fighting through the shrine’s hostile mobs. The dangerous area is the shrine itself, which you’ll enter in the next quest.
• Grab the flight path if you haven’t. If you missed the Wyrmrest Temple flight point, go back and get it now. You’ll be returning to the temple multiple times as this sub-chain progresses.

Lore Context

The Ruby Dragonshrine is the sacred final resting place of the red dragonflight.

Unlike any ordinary graveyard, this is hallowed ground where red dragons come to die and enrich the land with their passing. The fact that the Scourge is desecrating it, trying to raise the dead dragons as undead, is a deeply personal affront to the red flight.

Lauriel’s quest text reveals the strategic thinking behind sending you here: the dragons need help, and by providing it, the mortal factions can earn the trust needed to gain an audience with Alexstrasza.

The Ruby Dragonshrine’s keeper was Dahlia Suntouch, who was slain by the death knight Orbaz Bloodbane.

Cross-Expansion Connection

In the Cataclysm dungeon End Time, players visit a future version of the Ruby Dragonshrine that is completely devoid of life and overrun by undead. The Echo of Sylvanas serves as the boss encounter there.

Nozdormu’s commentary on this future is chilling: it represents what happens if Deathwing wins.

Horde Equivalent

• Report to the Ruby Dragonshrine (Horde) . Given by Golluck Rockfist <Horde Ambassador> at Wyrmrest Temple. The Horde and Alliance approach the Ruby Dragonshrine from different directions: Alliance from the east (Wyrmrest side) and Horde from the west (Agmar’s Hammer side).
• Golluck’s quest text is notably different in tone from Lauriel’s. Where Lauriel frames the mission as a diplomatic opportunity, Golluck frames it as a chance to “redeem ourselves for the transgressions of our ancestors,” a reference to the Horde’s historical enslavement of red dragons during the Second War. He also makes it clear this is not a request. The Horde’s relationship with the red dragonflight carries significantly more baggage.
