Walkthrough

Remember the letter Archmage Modera gave you way back in Gaining an Audience (quest 7)?

Tariolstrasz took it and held onto it, sending you to prove yourself first. Now he pulls it out of his sleeve and finally deems you ready: “Yes… yes, I think that you are ready to see the queen now.”

Getting to the Top

• Talk to Tariolstrasz on the ground floor of Wyrmrest Temple. He will arrange for a drake to carry you to the top of the temple. His quest text says: “When you are ready, speak to me again and I will see to it that one of these drakes delivers you safely to the top of the temple.”
• There is no elevator at Wyrmrest Temple. Transport to the upper levels is via drake flight from Tariolstrasz on the ground floor. Speak to him after accepting the quest and select the flight option.
• Alexstrasza stands at the very top of the temple, surrounded by members of her flight. The Orb of Unity, a massive sphere symbolizing the dragonflights’ alliance, sits nearby.

• Present the letter to Alexstrasza. Her response is extraordinary and worth reading carefully.

Alexstrasza’s Response

Alexstrasza opens with a line that immediately establishes who she is: “It is good to finally meet you in person. I have known you since before you were born.”

As the Aspect of Life, charged with the preservation of all living things, this isn’t metaphorical. She’s aware of the life force of every mortal on Azeroth.

She then processes the intelligence your entire 14-quest investigation has gathered: “You are very courageous to bring us this information. I was beginning to wonder why the blue dragonflight had so boldly initiated an attack upon the temple itself. Now we know that they are using enormous amounts of the very magic they view as such a threat to Azeroth.”

She shakes her head in resignation and delivers the verdict: “Hypocritical, but so be it.”

This is the moment where everything the ley line investigation uncovered comes together. The blue dragonflight, which started the Nexus War to stop mortals from “misusing” arcane magic, has been siphoning ley line energy across all of western Dragonblight (Moonrest Gardens, Glittering Strand, Lothalor Woodlands, Lake Indu’le, Azure Dragonshrine) to supercharge their forces for a direct assault on Wyrmrest Temple.

Alexstrasza now has the full picture, and her judgment is delivered in three words: “Hypocritical, but so be it.”

Tips

• This is the narrative payoff for 13 quests of investigation. If you’ve been following the chain from A Strange Device, this is the moment it all comes together. Take a moment with Alexstrasza’s dialogue.
• Note the NPCs at the top of the temple. Torastrasza <Majordomo to the Ruling Council> is here, along with representatives of multiple dragonflights. The Wyrmrest Accord quartermaster Cielstrasza is also at the top, where you can spend Wyrmrest reputation later.
• Accept the follow-up immediately. Report to Lord Devrestrasz continues the chain toward its climax.

Lore Context

You started as a random adventurer finding a strange device at Moonrest Gardens. You traced the ley line network across four zones. You brought the intelligence to the Kirin Tor, who sent you to the dragons, who made you prove yourself through three quests of blood and sacrifice at the Ruby Dragonshrine.

Only after all of that are you deemed worthy of a personal audience with the Dragon Queen. 

Alexstrasza’s characterization in WotLK is defined by restraint and sorrow, not rage. She doesn’t vow destruction on Malygos. She shakes her head and says “Hypocritical, but so be it.”

She is an ancient being who has seen too many wars, and she recognizes that another one has become unavoidable.

The letter Tariolstrasz finally returns is the same one Archmage Modera wrote during Gaining an Audience. That it took seven more quests of proving yourself before the dragons would even present it to their queen underscores how seriously the red dragonflight takes its protocols, even in the middle of a war.

Cross-Expansion Connection

• Alexstrasza’s role at Wyrmrest Temple continues through Cataclysm, where the temple becomes the staging ground for the final confrontation with Deathwing in the Dragon Soul raid. The Orb of Unity visible at the temple’s summit is eventually shattered by Alexstrasza herself in grief after Korialstrasz (Krasus) sacrifices himself to prevent the corruption of the red dragonflight’s eggs.
• Alexstrasza features prominently in Dragonflight’s storyline on the Dragon Isles, where she confronts her own past and the Primalists. Her WotLK characterization as a weary but resolute leader is foundational to understanding her later arc.
