Walkthrough

You’ve just delivered 14 quests’ worth of intelligence to the Dragon Queen. Now she puts you to work.

Alexstrasza’s quest text reveals a dimension of her character that her earlier “Hypocritical, but so be it” only hinted at. She opens with: “I abhor the loss of life… any life.”

This is the Aspect of Life speaking from the deepest core of her identity. But she follows immediately: “But I will not stand idly by and allow Malygos to kill us and defile the temple!”

Even for a being whose entire purpose is the preservation of life, the blue dragonflight’s assault has crossed a line.

She tells you she has appointed Lord Devrestrasz as the commander of Wyrmrest’s defenses and instructs you to speak with Torastrasza for a drake ride down to him.

Getting to Devrestrasz

• You are already at the top of Wyrmrest Temple from turning in Informing the Queen. Speak with Torastrasza <Majordomo to the Ruling Council> on the top level to ride a drake down to the middle level. Alexstrasza’s quest text specifically says: “Speak with Torastrasza to ride a drake down to him.”
• Lord Devrestrasz stands on the middle level at approximately [59, 54].
• Dismount before talking to Torastrasza. If you interact with transport NPCs while mounted, they will not offer the flight option.

Turn In

• Devrestrasz is expecting you. His response: “You must be <name>. The queen informed me that you would be coming. If you are willing, we are in great need of your assistance.” The dragons communicated through their own channels ahead of your arrival, just as Ceristrasz did for Tariolstrasz earlier in the chain.

Tips

• This quest unlocks the Defending Wyrmrest Temple daily quest. This is one of the most important Wyrmrest Accord reputation dailies in the game, awarding 325 reputation per completion. However, the Rifle the Bodies chain from Wintergarde Keep may also need to be completed before Devrestrasz offers the daily.
• A Wyrmrest Protector NPC may be standing near or on top of Devrestrasz, making him slightly harder to spot. Look for the human-form NPC, not the dragonkin guards.
• Devrestrasz also serves as ground-level transport. After turning in, you can ask him for a drake ride back to the ground floor (“Can I get a ride back to ground level, Lord Devrestrasz?”). Useful to know for future daily runs.

Lore Context

Alexstrasza’s “I abhor the loss of life… any life” is not diplomacy or sentiment. She is the Aspect of Life, charged by the Titans with the protection of all living things on Azeroth. Declaring war, even a defensive one, goes against her deepest nature. That she does so anyway underscores how dire the situation has become.

Lord Devrestrasz summarizes the entire ley line investigation in a single sentence of his idle dialogue: “As you know, Malygos had his forces destroy a nearby ley line anchor. The forces of the dragonflight then redirected that power to the Azure Dragonshrine. The blue dragons are using that power to strengthen themselves; so much so that they dare attack the temple itself!”

Name History: This NPC was originally named Lord Afrasastrasz. He was renamed to Lord Devrestrasz in a July 2021 hotfix to remove references to a former Blizzard employee. If you encounter older guides, forum posts, or even some in-game quest text still referencing “Afrasastrasz” (like the URL of this quest page, originally made in 2014), it is the same character and the same quest.

Cross-Expansion Connection

Lord Devrestrasz continues commanding Wyrmrest’s defenses in Cataclysm, where he leads the defense against Deathwing’s forces during the Dragon Soul raid. He can be found outside the temple on the road toward Morchok, rallying the Wyrmrest Accord with battle cries like “The siege must be broken. Wyrmrest Accord, defend the line!”

His trajectory from WotLK defensive commander to Dragon Soul battlefield leader is a natural continuation of the role Alexstrasza assigns him in this quest.
