Quest Giver: Commander Kunz — The Argent Stand, Zul’Drak [40, 67]

Objective: Visit four Argent Crusade posts, complete each captain’s assigned task, and return to Commander Kunz. Complete all four within 20 minutes to unlock a bonus reward.

How It Works

When you accept Troll Patrol, you receive a 20-minute “On Patrol” buff. You must visit four Argent Crusade outposts, complete one randomly assigned task at each, and return to Kunz. Each captain offers one of three possible tasks (randomized daily). If you return with the On Patrol buff still active, Kunz offers the instant turn-in quest Congratulations! for bonus reputation, gold, and a Patroller’s Pack. You must also turn in Congratulations! before the buff expires.

The Four Posts and Their Possible Tasks

1. Captain Brandon — Drak’Sotra [48.8, 78.9]

All three of Brandon’s tasks are non-combat and quick. Something for the Pain sends you west of his position; the other two are nearby.

2. Captain Rupert — Drak’Sotra [58.1, 72.4]

Rupert is a Forsaken captain stationed at the wall on the eastern side of Drak’Sotra. Intestinal Fortitude awards the most reputation of any single sub-quest (250 rep, pre-hotfix). Throwing Down requires you to navigate nerubian-infested ground, so try to avoid unnecessary pulls.

3. Captain Grondel — Drak’Agal [48.1, 63.9]

All three tasks take place in the flooded area northwest of Grondel’s building. Creature Comforts (20 items) can be slow if others are competing for thornwood. Couldn’t Care Less can also be bottlenecked by Mossy Rampager respawn rates during peak hours. Whatdya Want, a Medal? is generally the fastest since corpses are plentiful.

4. Alchemist Finklestein — Heb’Valok [35, 52]

This is always the same quest (no rotation), and it’s the biggest time sink of the patrol. After accepting the quest, speak to Finklestein again and select “I’m ready to begin…” He calls out ingredients one at a time. You must locate each item on the stockroom shelves, grab it, and add it to the cauldron before time expires on each ingredient.

Finklestein’s Lab Layout (facing the cauldron, entrance behind you):

• Left shelves: Abomination Guts, Blight Crystal, Chilled Serpent Mucus, Crushed Basilisk Crystals, Frozen Spider Ichor, Withered Batwing
• Right shelves: Amberseed, Ancient Ectoplasm, Crystallized Hogsnot, Ghoul Drool, Putrid Pirate Perspiration, Shrunken Dragon’s Claw, Trollbane, Wasp Wings
• Both sides: Icecrown Bottled Water, Knotroot, Pickled Eagle Egg, Prismatic Mojo, Pulverized Gargoyle Teeth, Raptor Claw, Speckled Guano, Spikey Spider Eggs
• Floor (both sides): Muddy Mire Maggots, Hairy Herring Heads, Seasoned Slider Cider

Top shelf items are unreachable on most (possibly all) characters. Don’t waste time trying to grab items from the highest shelves.

If you fail (miss an ingredient timer), you can abandon the sub-quest and restart by talking to Finklestein again.

Efficiency Tips

• Start with Finklestein. This is the hardest and most failure-prone task. Get it out of the way first so if you need to retry, you haven’t wasted time on the other three. From Kunz, fly northwest to Heb’Valok.
• Suggested Route: Finklestein [35, 52] → Grondel [48, 64] → Rupert [58, 72] → Brandon [49, 79] → back to Kunz [40, 67]. This loops southeast and then back northwest, minimizing backtracking.
• Flying mount required (practically). Ground-mount completion within 20 minutes is extremely tight. Epic flying makes this trivial at ~10 minutes.
• Druids: You can loot ground items (Thornwood, Dirt Mounds, Water-Poppies) without leaving flight form.
• Learn the lab over time. Finklestein’s ingredient locations stay consistent. After a few days of doing the quest, you’ll memorize the shelf layout and can finish in under 2 minutes.
• Dying resets the timer. If you die during the patrol, the On Patrol buff is removed. On PvP servers, this makes the timed bonus unreliable.
• Avoid the contest. If Grondel’s area is crowded and you’re seeing slow respawns on Mossy Rampagers or Thornwood, finish the other three tasks first and come back.
• Check your daily count. This entire circuit uses 5-6 of your 25 daily quest slots. Make sure you have room before starting.

Lore Context

The Argent Crusade established the Argent Stand as their primary foothold in Zul’Drak, caught between the Drakkari ice trolls and the encroaching Scourge. Troll Patrol represents the daily struggle to maintain these satellite outposts.

Captain Rupert is one of several Forsaken members serving within the Argent Crusade, reflecting the faction’s cross-faction composition under Tirion Fordring’s leadership.

Finklestein’s truth serum is used to interrogate a Drakkari prisoner, fitting the broader Zul’Drak narrative of the Argent Crusade gathering intelligence on both the collapsing troll empire and the Scourge threat.
