“Gritty as my men are, they’re still mortal. Wounds and pain diminish their ability to perform their missions. No amount of training changes that simple fact of life. Thankfully, one of our alchemists has developed a recipe for a salve that binds to our bandages and greatly reduces the pain our soldiers experience. The salve requires a special poppy these trolls cultivate just west of here.
Go to Drak’Sotra Fields and harvest some of them to keep our stockpiles from running out.”

Lore Context
Brandon’s quest text explains that an Argent Crusade alchemist developed a poppy-based salve that binds to bandages to reduce soldiers’ pain. The Drakkari cultivated these poppies in the flooded terraces before the Scourge disrupted everything. The troll agricultural infrastructure is now being repurposed by the Crusade to keep their troops functional.
The Drak’Sotra Fields themselves exist because the weakening of the land (caused by the Scourge’s presence and the deaths of the loa) has thinned the barrier between worlds, allowing water elementals to flood in. This ecological collapse is a direct consequence of the zone’s central tragedy: the Drakkari sacrificing their own gods.

Vikstone's War JournalCaptain Brandon spoke without looking up from his wounded. “Gritty as my men are, they’re still mortal. No amount of training changes that simple fact of life.”

The soldiers at Drak’Sotra told their stories in stifled groans and bandages that needed constant changing. Some bore gashes from troll weaponry, others the deep burn of frost wyrm breath.
“We have an alchemist who makes a salve,” Brandon continued. “Needs a special poppy these trolls cultivate west of here. Keep our stockpiles from running out.”
The fields spread across shallow water, the mature blooms rising above their smaller kin like soldiers standing at attention. I waded through, my reflection broken by each step, and gathered what was needed. The water elementals watched but kept their distance.
Five poppies, enough to let good soldiers stand their posts without trembling.
Brandon took them with a nod. “Fine specimens. On behalf of my soldiers, I thank you.”
The poppies will keep soldiers standing a while longer. Brandon pointed east, where Captain Rupert has a problem crawling out of the ground that requires grenades instead of medicine in Throwing Down.
