Objective: Use the Lifeblood Gem on 8 destroyed Lifeblood Elementals at the Sundered Shard.

Walkthrough

• Fly southeast from the Avatar to the Sundered Shard, the broken top half of the Lifeblood Pillar at [71, 60]. The elementals are on top of and around the hill outside the entrance.
• The elementals are NOT inside the cave. They are outside and on top of the hill, not in the cave (which leads to Artruis the Heartless’s lair).
• Kill a Lifeblood Elemental, then use the Lifeblood Gem on the corpse. Repeat 8 times.
• Elemental ability: Blood Tap, which inflicts Physical damage and increases the elemental’s damage by 15% for 15 sec. Watch for the buff stacking if you pull multiples.

Using the Lifeblood Gem (Critical: Read This First)

This quest’s gem mechanic is notoriously finicky. Here is the reliable method distilled:

1. Kill a Lifeblood Elemental.
2. Target the corpse by clicking on it (left-click).
3. Use the Lifeblood Gem from your inventory or quest tracker while the corpse is targeted.
4. Do not switch targets during the channel. The gem checks your target when the channel ends, not when it begins. If you’re targeting something else when it finishes, you get no credit.
5. Repeat seven more times.

Common Failure Points:

• Miners: Do NOT mine the elemental before using the gem. Mining can consume the corpse before the gem can extract energy. Use the gem first, then mine.
• Auto-loot: Some report that having Auto Loot enabled causes issues. If the gem isn’t working, try disabling Auto Loot, or loot the corpse first, then re-target and use the gem.
• Druids in animal form: No credit when used in Cat Form. Shift to humanoid form before using the gem.
• Pet classes: If your pet switches to a new target while you’re channeling, you may accidentally switch targets too. Send pet to passive during the channel.
• Multiple corpses: Kill and process one elemental at a time. Some report “Invalid Target” errors when trying to use the gem on a second corpse killed before the first was processed.
• Other players’ kills: You CAN use the gem on corpses killed by other players, as long as they haven’t been mined or fully despawned.

Efficiency Tips

• Accept both this quest and The Fallen Pillar before leaving Freya. Both send you to the Lifeblood Pillar/Sundered Shard area.
• Turn in The Fallen Pillar at the Cultist Corpse [65.1, 60.3] on top of the Lifeblood Pillar, then fly slightly east to [71, 60] for the elementals.
• Pick up Cultist Incursion from the Cultist Corpse before heading to the elementals, so you can turn in both Cultist Incursion and Salvaging Life’s Strength in a single trip back to Freya.
• Some elementals spawn on the upper slopes of the hill, reachable by flying mount. Check above, not just around the base.

Lore Context

The Avatar of Freya’s quest text: “The Lifeblood Pillar was toppled over with great force, sending the very earth into an upheaval. The elementals that wander the sundered shard carry with them the very life essence that gave the pillar its strength. I cannot allow this energy to be wasted, for only four pillars remain.”

The Lifeblood Elementals are not typical earth elementals. They’re living fragments of the titan pillar’s energy, released when the Cult of the Damned blew it up. Each one carries a piece of the lifeforce that maintained Sholazar’s protective barrier. Freya’s Avatar knows the pillar can’t be rebuilt, but she’s not willing to let that energy dissipate. The gem you use recovers it for future use, as she says: “We’ll need the energy to heal the land when all this is over.”

The Sundered Shard is the broken-off top of the Lifeblood Pillar, made of glowing red crystal, flung to this location when the pillar was destroyed. It’s now a contested zone between Lifeblood Elementals (remnants of the pillar’s power) and Scourge forces.
