Walkthrough

• This quest is automatically available from the Cultist Corpse on top of the Lifeblood Pillar immediately after turning in The Fallen Pillar.
• Your character examines the scene and connects the dots: “It appears the Avatar of Freya was right. The undead were not able to enter Sholazar Basin before the Lifeblood Pillar was brought down. They used their living agents from the Cult of the Damned instead.”
• Fly north back to the Avatar of Freya at Rainspeaker Rapids [64.5, 48.7] and speak with her.
• If you still need to finish Salvaging Life’s Strength (killing Lifeblood Elementals around the pillar base), do that before flying back, so you can turn in both quests in one trip.

Lore Context

The Avatar of Freya’s reaction is one of the most revealing character moments in this chain. When you report that living mortals, not undead, sabotaged the pillar, she responds: “The living… willingly serve the Lich King? All this time I’ve been searching for the wrong enemy, <race>. Let us make haste and uproot these cultists from these lands.”

This is a genuine blind spot for a titan construct. The Avatar was designed to combat undeath. She could sense and destroy Scourge forces. But the Cult of the Damned, living mortals who chose to serve the Lich King, didn’t register as threats. It’s the same vulnerability the Cult has exploited across Northrend: at Farshire in the Borean Tundra, at the Horde farms north of Warsong Hold, and in infiltrating both faction strongholds. Their greatest weapon isn’t magic or force. It’s the fact that the living can go places the undead cannot.

The Avatar’s confession, “I’ve been searching for the wrong enemy,” sets up the next two quests. Now that she understands the threat, she sends you to strike the Death’s Hand Encampment, the Cult of the Damned’s base in Sholazar, to kill their Cultist Infiltrators and destroy their Unstable Explosives before they can repeat the sabotage on another pillar.

What Comes Next (Preview)

• Completing Cultist Incursion unlocks two simultaneous quests from the Avatar of Freya, both targeting the Death’s Hand Encampment northwest of her position:
  • Exterminate the Intruders: Kill 8 Cultist Infiltrators at the Death’s Hand Encampment.
  • Weapons of Destruction: Destroy 4 Unstable Explosives at the Death’s Hand Encampment.
• Both quests must be completed before the chain continues to The Lifewarden’s Wrath, where you defend the Glimmering Pillar from a second sabotage attempt.
