“I am an embodiment of but one aspect of Freya, daughter of the titans. I am the Lifewarden — I was left here to protect this land against the threat of the Scourge. I never anticipated the Lich King would send willing living servants to do his work. I could easily crush these cultists myself, but I am all that stands between the undead armies and the rest of the basin. Go, Vikstone.
Deliver my wrath to these insolent trespassers.”

Lore Context
This quest reveals a key twist in the Sholazar storyline: the Cult of the Damned (living humans who serve the Lich King willingly) breached the basin’s defenses, not the undead Scourge directly. The Avatar of Freya admits she was searching for the wrong enemy all along, having focused on undead threats while the cultists slipped in.
The cultists’ goal is to destroy the Glimmering Pillar, one of the titan crystal pylons maintaining Sholazar’s tropical climate and anti-Scourge wards. They already succeeded in toppling the Lifeblood Pillar (discovered in the prerequisite chain), and this camp is their staging ground for the next assault.
This quest sets up the rest of the Waygate chain, which escalates from clearing cultists to activating the ancient portal to Un’Goro Crater and ultimately summoning the Etymidian, a titan colossus that obliterates the Scourge invasion at The Avalanche.
Explore Sholazar Basin’s hidden easter eggs, lore mysteries, and connections across Warcraft history in Vikstone’s Sholazar Basin Chronicles, along with the complete quest storyline.
Vikstone's War Journal“I am an embodiment of but one aspect of Freya, daughter of the titans. I am the Lifewarden—I was left here to protect this land against the threat of the Scourge. I never anticipated the Lich King would send willing living servants to do his work.”

She looked toward the northwest, where smoke rose from the cultist encampment.
“I could easily crush these cultists myself, but I am all that stands between the undead armies and the rest of the basin. Go. Deliver my wrath to these insolent trespassers.”
I found the Death’s Hand Encampment in the hills. Crude tents, supply caches, and living men and women who’d chosen to serve death. They saw me coming and held their ground, which was the wrong decision.
Some threw bombs as they died, small charges meant to take their killers with them. Fanatics to the end, the kind who believed the Lich King offered something worth having.
I returned to Freya.
“You speak the truth. The intruders at the camp were dealt with…” She paused. “But I’m afraid it might have been too late.”
Too late. The words hung between us.
“Too late for what?”
Whatever Freya would not say about the Glimmering Pillar, the answer was probably sitting in the same camp Vikstone had just cleared, among the Weapons of Destruction.
