Lore Context
This quest formalizes what you’ve been working toward across the entire 5-quest chain: the Knights of the Ebon Blade now control a forward operating base deep inside Icecrown. From here, they launch operations against the vrykul of Jotunheim, the saronite mining operation at the Weeping Quarry, and eventually the Icecrown Citadel assault itself.
The three NPCs you freed (Vile, Lady Nightswood, The Leaper) are now permanent residents and quest givers at the vault, having been successfully broken from the Lich King’s control through the Sovereign Rod you constructed.

I have stood on that deck with him half a dozen times now and he has never once looked at anything but the work in front of him. He was looking north.
“You should head back. By now, Baron Sliver and the other death knights will be fighting tooth and nail to hold The Shadow Vault against the might of the Scourge. I’m sure they’ll need your help.”
Veridian took me back over the ice, and the vault came up out of the flat with Ebon Blade banners on it where the Scourge colours had been.
Sliver was not where he has been standing all week. He had come southwest and out into the open, giving orders at a normal volume, and it took me a moment to place him without the pretense on.
“Good of you to return. As you can see, we have our hands full here.”
He was not exaggerating. The Scourge were already massing out past the western ledge where Vile used to stand.
Holding the vault was a different problem from taking it, and the man Sliver wanted for that job was not a man at all but a vrykul duke sitting in Jotunheim who had never heard of the Ebon Blade, which is why the next order was simply The Duke.
