“The Knights of the Ebon Blade want to take the Scourge base known as The Shadow Vault to the northwest. I have a contact in their group who has asked for help. The first step is to blind the Lich King. He’s using a device known as The Ocular to watch the area, which floats above the vault’s spires. Our dwarves have created something for you to use against it.
After the ‘eye’ has been destroyed, find Baron Sliver on the vault grounds. He’s pretending to still be under the Lich King’s will.”

The Shadow Vault Takeover
This quest begins the Knights of the Ebon Blade‘s operation to seize the Shadow Vault from the Scourge. Baron Sliver has been working undercover inside the Vault, posing as a loyal Scourge servant. Destroying the Ocular (“blinding the Lich King”) is the first step in making the base vulnerable to capture.
The full Shadow Vault chain (5 quests) phases the area from hostile Scourge territory into a friendly Ebon Blade hub, unlocking the Duchess Mynx, the Ebon Blade quartermaster (after quest 4, “If He Cannot Be Turned“), daily quests, and eventually the Jotunheim and Valhalas questlines.

Vikstone's War Journal“The Knights of the Ebon Blade want to take the Scourge base known as The Shadow Vault to the northwest,” Thassarian said. “I have a contact in their group who has asked for help. Our dwarves have created something for you to use against it. After the ‘eye’ has been destroyed, find Baron Sliver on the vault grounds. He’s pretending to still be under the Lich King’s will.”

Blind the Lich King.
Veridian took me northwest. He carried me through the broken sky over Outland and through storms in Blade’s Edge that would have finished any beast bred on this world, and Icecrown is simply one more insult he has agreed to bear. He does not like the cold. He goes anyway.
The vault is black stone and spires and no windows worth the name. What is above it is the problem.
I have seen that before. Under the sand in Silithus, at the bottom of Ahn’Qiraj, where the thing in the pit had an eye like that and used it much the same way, and where I lost people I still count. I sat on a drake half a mile off a Scourge fortress in the north of the world and looked at a device built in the image of an Old God.
The blaster carries eighty yards. The eye sees eighty yards. Whoever built that weapon and whoever built that eye came out at the same number, and there is exactly one line in the air where you can hurt it and it can see you, and it takes ten shots.
So I sat on that line and worked. It looked at me the entire time. There was no malice in it that I could detect, and that was worse, because a thing with malice in it wants something from you.
It came apart on the tenth and the pieces went down over the spires.
Baron Sliver was south of the vault on the open ground, standing among Scourge and being one of them.
“Perhaps now we can really get something done. Don’t be fooled though, the Lich King can still ‘see’ through his Scourge minions. That’s why you’re here.”
So the eye was never the eye. Every dead thing on that ground is one, and Sliver has been standing in the middle of them for however long, pretending, being looked at from every direction at once.
Blinding the Lich King bought the Ebon Blade nothing on its own, because Sliver’s problem was never what the Scourge could see but what its own soldiers still believed, and fixing that needed materials nobody had yet, so I Have an Idea, But First…
