“Vikstone, I must now ask you to undertake an operation so hazardous, so deadly, that only you can see it through. The vrykul fortress, Skorn, sits on our eastern border. My scouts inform me that those ‘giants’ are poised to strike us, and with my forces scattered all over the fjord, I don’t have the men to take the place by force. Instead, you’re going to use your cunning. I’ve sent a sergeant ahead with the details.
Show this command insignia at Skorn and he’ll reveal himself and follow your orders.”
-Captain Adams
Captain Adams has asked you to use the Westguard Command Insignia at Skorn, and then to speak with the Westguard Sergeant.
Provided item:

Quest Giver: Captain Adams at Westguard Keep
Objective: Use the Westguard Command Insignia at Skorn, then speak with the Westguard Sergeant.

Summoning Location Tips
The insignia only works inside the Skorn subzone. Recommended safe spots to summon:
Clear the area before summoning. The Sergeant follows you around but deals minimal damage and tends to attract aggro. Summon him in a safe spot, pick up all three quests, then dismiss him or let him despawn before engaging enemies.
The Three Quests
After completing Operation: Skornful Wrath, the Sergeant offers three simultaneous objectives:
Complete all three to unlock All Hail the Conqueror of Skorn!, which returns you to Captain Adams for significant rewards.
Tips for the Skorn Campaign
Story Context
Captain Adams frames this as a covert operation:
“<name>, I must now ask you to undertake an operation so hazardous, so deadly, that only you can see it through.”
He explains the strategic situation:
“The vrykul fortress, Skorn, sits on our eastern border. My scouts inform me that those ‘giants’ are poised to strike us, and with my forces scattered all over the fjord, I don’t have the men to take the place by force.”
His solution is asymmetric warfare:
“Instead, you’re going to use your cunning. I’ve sent a sergeant ahead with the details. Show this command insignia at Skorn and he’ll reveal himself and follow your orders.”
The Sergeant greets you professionally:
“A pleasure to meet you, <sir/ma’am>! I look forward to working with you. Speaking of which, we have a great deal to do.”
Lore Note: The Winterskorn Clan
Skorn (spelled “Skörn” on the world map) is home to the Winterskorn clan, one of the vrykul tribes awakened by the Lich King to serve the Scourge.
Unlike the Dragonflayer clan at Utgarde, who use proto-drakes and harpoon guns, the Winterskorn specialize in frost magic. Their casters on the watchtowers rain frostbolts on anyone approaching the fortress, which is why Captain Adams sends you to destroy those towers specifically.
The Winterskorn have an ancient history. Thousands of years ago, they waged the Winterskorn War against other titan-forged, armed by the fire giants Volkhan and Ignis. The conflict was so severe that Tyr called upon the Dragon Aspects for aid. Ysera and Nozdormu ended the war by putting the entire Winterskorn clan into a timeless sleep.
They slumbered for millennia until the Lich King stirred them awake to serve as shock troops for the Scourge.
Easter Egg: Beowulf Parallels
The Skorn questline draws heavily from the Anglo-Saxon epic Beowulf:
The elders at Camp Winterhoof warn that these vrykul “may rise from the dead, not unlike the Scourge, but a different kind of undeath.” Your gruesome work with the machete is policy, not cruelty.
PvP Warning
This is a shared quest area for both Alliance and Horde. On PvP servers, watch for enemy players arriving via the northern road. Fighting mobs near the road leaves you vulnerable to opportunistic attacks from passing enemies.

Vikstone's War Journal“I must now ask you to undertake an operation so hazardous, so deadly, that only you can see it through.”

Adams had a flair for the dramatic.
“The vrykul fortress, Skorn, sits on our eastern border. My scouts inform me that those ‘giants’ are poised to strike us, and with my forces scattered all over the fjord, I don’t have the men to take the place by force.”
He pressed a bronze insignia into my hand.
“Instead, you’re going to use your cunning. I’ve sent a sergeant ahead with the details. Show this command insignia at Skorn and he’ll reveal himself and follow your orders.”
Skorn sprawled across the eastern hills, a sprawl of longhouses and watchtowers larger than anything I’d seen since Nifflevar. Vrykul moved through the streets, proving Adams’s scouts right. They were mustering.
I raised the insignia at the fortress edge, half-expecting a volley of arrows. Instead, a dwarf emerged from behind a collapsed wall, armor dirtied to blend with the stone.
“A pleasure to meet you, sir!” He saluted crisply, voice low enough not to carry. “I look forward to working with you. Speaking of which, we have a great deal to do.”
He’d been waiting here, alone, in the heart of vrykul territory. Either the bravest soldier in Westguard or the most expendable.
The Sergeant had three objectives ready, longhouses and watchtowers and corpses, and the simplest of them first, so Burn Skorn, Burn!
