Story Context
Peppy is drunk. Very drunk. And she has an idea.
“Voila, inshtant plague vacshine! But I sure as heck am not going to try thish on myself. And I know you don’t want to be my tesht shubject!”
So naturally, she volunteers the vrykul prisoner:
“We’ve got a vrykul prishoner being held down in the cells under the keep. Why don’t you take thish mix I whipped up down there, and get that giant to drink it …hic?!”
When you return after the disastrous results, Peppy realizes what she’s done:
“Huh? Well that sucks! Darn, I made thingsh worsh. In fact, I think I perfected their plague for them …hic!”
Lore Note: The Alliance Accidentally Creates the Blight
This quest is one of WoW’s darkest comedic moments, and its implications are staggering.
The Royal Apothecary Society has been working for years to perfect the New Plague, a biological weapon capable of killing both the living and the undead. Their tests at Halgrind and New Agamand had been only partially successful.
Then a drunk gnome “amateur alchemist” adds rotgut to stolen Forsaken samples and hands it to an Alliance adventurer. The result? A compound that dissolves a vrykul into a puddle of goo while guards watch in horror.
Scout Knowles called Peppy “something of an amateur alchemist” and warned that “she does love her drink.” What he didn’t mention was that her drunken tinkering would accidentally perfect the weapon the Forsaken couldn’t finish on their own.
Cross-Expansion Connection: The Road to Wrathgate
The plague perfected here leads directly to one of WoW’s most iconic cinematics.
At the Battle of Angrathar the Wrathgate, Grand Apothecary Putress unleashes the completed Forsaken Blight on the battlefield, killing Alliance, Horde, and Scourge forces indiscriminately. Highlord Bolvar Fordragon is presumed dead. The Horde loses Dranosh Saurfang. Even the Lich King is forced to retreat.
The weapon that made this possible? The one that could kill both the living and the undead? An Alliance player helped create it by force-feeding a drunk gnome’s concoction to a prisoner of war.
This chain continues with Captain Adams learning the bad news and ordering a bombing run on the Forsaken plague operations at Halgrind.

Vikstone's War Journal“Voila, inshtant plague vacshine!” Peppy held up a vial of something that bubbled faintly. “But I sure as heck am not going to try thish on myself. And I know you don’t want to be my tesht shubject!”

No. I did not.
“Oh, I’ve got… I’ve got an idea! We’ve got a vrykul prishoner being held down in the cells under the keep. Why don’t you take thish mix I whipped up down there, and get that giant to drink it… hic?”
I found him in the cells beneath Westguard Keep. The Dragonflayer prisoner glared at me from behind the bars, defiant even in chains. Several guards stood watching, curious about what I’d brought.
The vrykul didn’t drink willingly. But he drank.
What happened next was immediate. He clutched his throat, gagging, thrashing against his restraints.
“Yikes,” one guard muttered.
“This isn’t going to end well,” said another.
It didn’t. The prisoner convulsed once more and then… dissolved. Into a pool of green ooze that spread across the cell floor.
“That did NOT just happen!” Two guards spoke in unison.
“Heh, cool!” said a third, who received several disgusted looks before half the watch dropped to their knees to vomit.
Peppy’s reaction when I returned: “Huh? Well that sucks! Darn, I made thingsh worsh. In fact, I think I perfected their plague for them… hic!”
She grimaced and took a huge gulp of whatever she’d been drinking.
“Well, I wash hoping that it wouldn’t come down to thish, but it looks like there’sh no alternative… hic.”
The Alliance’s best alchemist, everyone.
Peppy was far too drunk to carry the news upstairs herself, which leaves Vikstone, a green puddle drying on a cell floor, and a conversation that begins You Tell Him …Hic!
