Walkthrough

Accept the Quest and Fly to Wintergarde

• Palena Silvercloud offers this quest immediately after completing “Of Traitors and Treason.”
• Accept it, then speak with her again.
• She provides a chat option to fly you to Wintergarde Keep on her hippogryph “Snowstorm.” This is an automatic, scripted flight (not a normal flight path) that travels at roughly 560% speed. Players coming from Westguard Keep get the gryphon “Skysong” from Greer Orehammer instead.
• Dismount and cancel any shapeshift forms before talking to Palena. If you’re mounted, you’ll get the error “You are already mounted! Dismount first.” Druids in shapeshift will get “You can’t take a taxi while shapeshifted!” If this happens, just dismount/cancel form and select the “I need to get to Wintergarde Keep fast!” chat option to try again.
• The flight is one-way. You cannot cancel it mid-flight.

Turn In at Wintergarde Keep

• You land directly inside Wintergarde Keep. Find High Commander Wyrmbane inside the main building at approximately [78, 48].
• When you deliver the missive, Wyrmbane’s reaction is chilling. He reveals that the traitors named on the list have already been found: “Do you know where the people on this list are now? Take a look outside, near the front gate. They’re the ones hanging from the arches. Ghoul bait…”
• The Scourge got to them first, turned them undead, and now their corpses hang from the Keep’s gate arches.

Efficiency Tips

• Grab the flight path. If you haven’t been to Wintergarde Keep before, this quest is your free express ticket. Make sure to pick up the flight path from the flight master so you can return easily.
• Don’t blindly accept “The Hills Have Us” from Gryphon Commander Urik. This is a separate breadcrumb quest at Wintergarde that auto-flies you to Amberpine Lodge in Grizzly Hills the moment you accept it. If you’re not ready to leave Dragonblight, skip it for now.
• Start picking up Wintergarde quests. After turning in, Wyrmbane offers Naxxramas and the Fall of Wintergarde as the next quest in the chain. Explore the Keep for additional quests from other NPCs before heading out, since there are several parallel chains operating here.

Lore & Secrets

The 7th Legion

• Halford Wyrmbane commands the 7th Legion, an elite Alliance special operations regiment composed of veterans from conflicts dating back to the Battle of Mount Hyjal. Wyrmbane himself is a paladin who was inspired to take up the Light after witnessing Turalyon‘s faith during the Second War.
• Wintergarde Keep is under constant siege from Naxxramas, the floating necropolis hovering directly above. The discovery that Cult of the Damned spies have infiltrated Alliance ranks (the list you just delivered) adds an internal threat on top of the external one.

The Vengeful Geists

• Wyrmbane’s dialogue implies the traitors were hanged at the gates, then reanimated by the Scourge and turned into the Vengeful Geists that now attack the Keep’s defenders. The physical corpses are not visible on the arches in-game, but the geists roaming the area are what’s left of them.

• WotLK (Isle of Conquest): Wyrmbane commands Alliance forces in the Isle of Conquest battleground.
• Legion: Appears when Alliance players reach Prestige Rank 2 in PvP, alongside other wartime Alliance leaders.
• Battle for Azeroth: Major character. Directs the entire Alliance War Campaign from the Wind’s Redemption in Boralus, coordinating operations across Kul Tiras and Zandalar on King Anduin’s orders.
