This is Unit S. Private Brau wasn’t exaggerating when he called it a suicide mission. The soldiers were sent to assault a Scourge ziggurat with barely enough men to form a patrol, let alone take a fortified position.
“We’re outnumbered, injured and have no escape route. If you can take some of the pressure off of us, we might be able to solidify our position.”
After you thin the undead ranks, Venn’s relief is palpable but guarded: “That should buy us some time. We’ll hope against hope for reinforcements from Valiance Keep.”
The grim reality is that reinforcements aren’t coming. Whoever ordered this mission didn’t expect survivors.

The Ziggurat Defenders were former soldiers, Alliance and otherwise, raised into Scourge service. They moved with the tireless patience of the dead, probing for weakness in the perimeter.
I gave them something else to focus on.
Seven of them, one after another. The first two came together and I split them apart with a horizontal sweep that caved ribs and sent one spinning. The third was faster, got inside my reach before I could reset. I drove my shoulder into its chest and brought the mace down on its skull as it staggered. Four, five, six, familiar as breathing.
When I returned, Venn’s men had used the opening to shore up their lines.
“That should buy us some time,” Venn said. His voice was steadier now. “We’ll hope against hope for reinforcements from Valiance Keep.”
I looked at the men around him. Exhausted, bandaged, holding weapons they barely knew how to swing. Reinforcements weren’t coming. We both knew it. But Venn needed his soldiers to believe otherwise.
Somewhere near the ziggurat the man Vikstone had been tracking was waiting, no longer merely Thassarian but Thassarian, the Death Knight.
