How to Complete
Travel east along the coast past Unu’pe to Death’s Stand and speak with Corporal Venn. The quest completes upon talking to him.
Lore Context
Ataika sends you eastward with a warning: “The man you seek went far to the east, to a place near the coast called Death’s Stand, beyond Unu’pe. Be careful if you go in search of him. He bore the mark of Karkut… he who watches over the dead.”
The quest title refers to Thassarian himself, a “son of Karkut” in the tuskarr worldview. To Ataika’s people, death knights are beings touched by their death god, souls that have crossed between life and death. The tuskarr don’t see Thassarian as a monster; they see him as someone claimed by Karkut.
When you arrive at Death’s Stand, Corporal Venn is less than thrilled: “Thassarian? Yeah he was here… what of it? We have more pressing problems right now, my friend.”
The “pressing problems” become clear immediately. Death’s Stand is an Alliance outpost on the front lines against the Scourge, and the soldiers are in desperate straits.
Why “Death’s Stand”?
This outpost sits at the edge of Scourge-held territory, where Alliance soldiers make their final stand against the undead tide. It’s here that Unit S was deployed, the suicide squad Thassarian led into the heart of enemy fortifications.

The son of a death god, a fitting title for a man who’d led eleven soldiers into a Scourge stronghold.
Death’s Stand had a handful of Alliance survivors who had fortified a position on the coast, hemmed in on all sides by the dead. I found Corporal Venn coordinating what defense they had left.
“Thassarian? Yeah, he was here.” Venn barely looked up. “What of it? We have more pressing problems right now, my friend.”
Death’s Stand was Surrounded! and the Scourge was not waiting on anybody’s questions.
