“Shango awaits, Vikstone. If you have succeeded in your tracking, he will not know that you stalk him, and you will need the advantage. He is supposed to be bigger, stronger, and more ferocious than the other dreadsabers of the basin. Travel north, to the western shore of Bittertide Lake and near the falls that feed it, do battle with Shango.
If you succeed, return with his pelt.”

Quick Facts
Walkthrough
Buck Cantwell sends you to finish what the tracking quest started. His briefing sets the stakes: Shango is “bigger, stronger, and more ferocious than the other dreadsabers of the basin.” He directs you to “travel north, to the western shore of Bittertide Lake and near the falls that feed it.”
Finding Shango: Shango is a level 76 named dreadsaber found on the northwestern shore of Bittertide Lake, near where the river from the North Sea feeds into the lake. His coordinates are [34, 34]. He patrols a small area, so check along the western shoreline if he’s not at his exact spawn point.
Important location note: The quest text says “near the falls that feed it,” referring to the river/waterfall entering the lake from the northwest, not Bittertide Falls [46, 46], which is where water leaves the lake flowing east toward River’s Heart. Head to the northwestern shore, not the eastern outlet.
If Shango isn’t there, another player likely killed him recently. His respawn is quick (a few minutes), so wait nearby.
The Fight: Shango is tougher than regular dreadsabers but still a solo kill for any level 76+ character. He has one notable ability: Rake, which inflicts Physical damage every 3 seconds. This is a bleed effect, so keep an eye on your health if you’re undergeared or fighting additional mobs at the same time. He drops Shango’s Pelt on death.
Do Alongside
Completing the Mastery Chain: This is the final quest in the Dreadsaber Mastery line. Finishing all three parallel mastery chains (Dreadsaber, Rhino, Crocolisk) unlocks In Search of Bigger Game from Hemet Nesingwary himself, continuing the overarching Nesingwary expedition storyline toward even larger prey.
Easter Egg: Yoruba Mythology
Lore Context
Mastery chain arc complete: The three-quest structure (kill 15 → track the legend → slay the legend) mirrors the progression of a real hunt: proving basic skill, developing expertise, then confronting the ultimate quarry. Buck Cantwell’s completion text reflects this: “What an exquisite pelt from such a noble animal! … Your pursuit of the creature has been flawless. You are a true huntsman.”
Nesingwary Mastery tradition: This is the final iteration of the Mastery format that Nesingwary’s crew has run across three expansions. Classic Stranglethorn (Panthers/Raptors/Tigers), TBC Nagrand (Clefthooves/Talbuks/Windrocs), and now WotLK Sholazar (Dreadsabers/Rhinos/Crocolisks). Sholazar’s titan-engineered ecosystem provides the most dramatic setting yet, with apex predators that rival anything the expedition has faced.

Vikstone's War Journal“Shango awaits.” Buck’s voice was quiet. “If you have succeeded in your tracking, he will not know that you stalk him, and you will need the advantage. He is supposed to be bigger, stronger, and more ferocious than the other dreadsabers of the basin.”
He met my eyes.

“Travel north, to the western shore of Bittertide Lake and near the falls that feed it. Do battle with Shango. If you succeed, return with his pelt.”
The falls roared in the distance as I approached. Mist hung in the air, softening the jungle’s edges.
I found him drinking at the water’s edge.
The stories hadn’t lied. Shango was larger than any dreadsaber I’d faced, his coat the color of smoke and shadow, muscles moving beneath his hide like tide beneath skin. When he raised his head and looked at me, there was no fear in those amber eyes. Only recognition, one predator acknowledging another.
He didn’t run. Neither did I.
The first strike came faster than thought. I twisted, felt claws rake across my pauldron, and brought the mace up in the same motion. It caught his shoulder. His return swipe opened a line of fire across my forearm.
We circled. The falls roared. The world narrowed to the space between us.
He was stronger. Faster. But I’d been hunting dreadsabers for days now, and I’d learned their language.
The final exchange was almost gentle. Shango collapsed at the water’s edge, his blood mingling with the spray from the falls. His eyes found mine one last time, and what I read there wasn’t hatred. It might have simply been the acknowledgment that this was how such things must end.
I knelt beside him until the light faded from those amber eyes. Then I took his pelt, handling it with the care it deserved.
“What an exquisite pelt from such a noble animal.” Buck ran his fingers across the dark fur when I returned. “It heartens me to see that the rumors about Shango were indeed true. Your pursuit of the creature has been flawless. You are a true huntsman.”
The dreadsaber hunt was complete and Buck’s respect was earned. The rhinos of Sholazar were next on Nesingwary’s list in Rhino Mastery: The Test
