Quest Giver: Lurielle — Frozen Glade, Howling Fjord [61, 22]

Objective: Freeze 8 Spores using the Enchanted Ice Core.

Walkthrough

1. Travel to the Twisted Glade at approximately [52-54, 17-20].
2. Find a Spore at full health. This is important (see Known Issues below).
3. Kill the Spore. When it dies, it pops into a tiny golden-orange ball on the ground. This ball is the corpse.
4. Target the ball, then use the Enchanted Ice Core from your inventory on it. You’ll get quest credit.
5. Repeat 8 times.

The #1 Problem With This Quest: Finding the Corpse

The spore’s death animation makes it look like the mob just vanished. It didn’t. It left behind a very small golden ball on the ground that blends into the foliage. Tips for finding it:

• Stay in melee range when the spore dies so you’re right on top of it.
• Use /target Spore after the kill to retarget the corpse if you lose it.
• Do NOT kill other mobs (especially Thornvine Creepers) on top of spore corpses. Their larger bodies will cover the ball and make it unclickable. Drag creepers away before killing them.

Combat Warning: PBAoE Poison Cloud

Spores have a point-blank area-of-effect poison/debuff aura. Melee classes will take periodic damage while standing near them. You can use interrupts to stop the cloud cast, or wait for the cloud to drop off before engaging. Rogues can use stun-locks (Cheap Shot into Kidney Shot) to kill during gaps in the cloud cycle.

Pet Classes: Set Pets to Passive

If your pet lands the killing blow, you may not get credit for the freeze. Put pets on passive and handle the killing blow yourself.

Known Issues: Evasion/”Target is Tapped” Bug

This quest has had a rocky history with evasion bugs across both original WotLK and WotLK Classic:

• Only attack spores at full HP. Spores at reduced health are often stuck in an evade state or flagged as “tapped” even when they appear untapped. Full-HP spores are the safe ones.
• WotLK Classic (2022+): The evasion bug was still reported. The workaround is the same: kill tapped/evading spores, wait for fresh spawns at 100% HP, then kill those.
• “Target is Tapped” fix: Letting the spore cloud hit you before killing it can resolve the tapped error.
• If an evasion bug is widespread, try the area around [52, 16] or [54, 19] for different spore spawns.

Efficiency Tips

• Complete Spawn of the Twisted Glade (kill 10 Thornvine Creepers) at the same time. Both quests share the Twisted Glade. Just be careful not to kill creepers on top of spore corpses.
• After turning in both quests, Lurielle offers Keeper Witherleaf, the chain finale. He spawns at [53, 19] in the Twisted Glade, so you’ll be heading right back.

Lore Context

• The “keepers” in the quest name aren’t Titan Keepers. They’re keepers of the glade, the corrupted counterparts to the frost nymphs who once maintained the Twisted Glade alongside Lurielle’s sisters. When the corruption swept through, the sisters died, but the keepers survived and turned hostile, seeding the land with poisonous spores.
• This quest cleverly reuses the Icy Cores from Spirits of the Ice. Lurielle repurposes the cores you collected from her former elemental companions into the Enchanted Ice Core. The tools of one tragedy become weapons against another.
• On turn-in, Lurielle is pragmatic: “The ice core worked well for you? I’ll have to remember that. I’m certain the keepers will not stop just because we’ve destroyed their work once.”
