Walkthrough

Finding the Shredders

• Broken-down shredders spawn in the area south of Blue Sky Logging Grounds, toward Venture Bay. Look for inactive Venture Co. shredder machines near the water and along the coastline.
• Shredder spawning is tied to quest status. A shredder spawns when you accept the quest, and another spawns each time you deliver one. Only one shredder exists at a time. If you don’t see one, make sure you have the quest active, and try abandoning and reaccepting it.
• This quest has a long history of spawn bugs. If shredders aren’t appearing despite reaccepting the quest, try relogging. This was a persistent issue throughout original WotLK and may still occur intermittently.

Driving the Shredders

• Interact with a broken-down shredder to mount it as a vehicle. You control the shredder directly.
• The shredder moves slowly: roughly 57% of normal walking speed. It has a sprint ability that boosts speed, but the duration is short (5 seconds) with a long cooldown (40 seconds). Use sprint strategically for the final stretch to the turn-in point.
• The shredder has basic combat abilities for self-defense, but it’s fragile. Avoid unnecessary fights, especially against enemy players.
• Deliver the shredder to Synipus (Alliance) or Grekk (Horde) at Blue Sky Logging Grounds. Repeat for all 3 shredders.

Efficiency Tips

• Swim, don’t walk. Shredders swim at 67% of normal speed compared to 57% when walking on land. If a water route is available between the shredder and the turn-in point, take it. The speed difference adds up over three deliveries.
• Do this quest first when you arrive at the daily hub. Shredder spawns can be disrupted by high player activity. Getting it done early avoids competition.
• Other players (including those on your own faction) can mount and “steal” a shredder you’ve left unattended.
• Death Knights: Path of Frost reportedly allows shredders to walk on water. If confirmed, this could let you use water shortcuts without the slower swim speed.
• The quest reward, Key to Refurbished Shredder, lets you pilot a combat-ready shredder at Venture Bay. Barblefink (Synipus’s brother) at Venture Bay points players to Synipus for the key. The shredder is a solid combat tool for PvP dailies in the bay.
• UI Addon Warning: If the shredder’s vehicle command buttons are unresponsive, disable UI addons (particularly any that modify unit frames or vehicle interfaces). This is a known compatibility issue.

Lore & Secrets

In-Game Memorial: Nathan C. Nelson

• Synipus is a living memorial to Nathan C. Nelson, known online as “EgoRager.” Nate was born in 1978 and passed away from cancer in 2008, just four days before his 30th birthday. He was a computer program supervisor in Columbus, Ohio, a DeVry University graduate, and an Army National Guard veteran.
• Nate was a member of TeamEgo, a gaming organization that had been around since the early days of online gaming. He played in their RPG subsidiary guild, Mortis Consortium, on the US-Illidan server (Horde side). His WoW characters included Berg (an Orc Hunter) and Domi.
• The name “Synipus” was Nate’s handle in EverQuest and Star Wars Galaxies before WoW. The NPC was made a gnome because Nate enjoyed playing small characters in games. Unlike most memorial NPCs who are non-attackable, Synipus is flagged for PvP, so Horde players visiting to pay respects should be careful.

Synipus and Barblefink

• Synipus and Barblefink are gnome brothers. Barblefink at Venture Bay directs players to his brother at Blue Sky Logging Grounds for shredder keys, connecting the two daily quest hubs.

Blue Sky Logging Grounds

• The logging camp also features the log ride, where players can ride timber logs downstream all the way to Venture Bay. The name is likely a reference to the Midnight Oil song “Blue Sky Mine.”
