The Earthen warrior’s stone surface is covered with cracks and gouges. Although it is incapable of bleeding, you can sense that the warrior is near death. A low, hoarse voice escapes from the dying warrior’s mouth.
“Find… Kurun… you must find… Kurun.”
It looks at you helplessly as you ask for any clues as to who or what Kurun might be.
“Our… leader… he stands on the… hill overlooking Thor Modan… commands us. Please… tell him… we cannot take… the city…”
Speak with Kurun on the hill overlooking Thor Modan.

Quest Giver: Fallen Earthen Warrior — Plaza of Thor Modan, Grizzly Hills
Objective: Speak with Kurun on the hill overlooking Thor Modan.
Quick Facts
Walkthrough
The Fallen Earthen Warrior lies dying in the plaza outside Thor Modan’s entrance. He is a crumbling stone figure, cracked and gouged from battle. In his last moments he gasps for you to find “Kurun,” the leader commanding the siege. Accept the quest before doing anything else at Thor Modan.
Finding the Path to Kurun
Kurun stands atop the cliffs above Thor Modan at [65.7, 17.7]. He is NOT accessible from inside the ruins. Do not enter Thor Modan trying to reach him. You will waste time fighting iron dwarves and hit a dead end.
Instead:
Speak with him to complete the quest. He immediately offers the follow-up, Raining Down Destruction.
Important: Accept This Quest First
If you ride up to Kurun before accepting Find Kurun! from the Fallen Earthen Warrior, you can speak to him and pick up his quests directly. This means you will miss completing Find Kurun!, which may lock you out of the achievement credit. Always grab the quest from the dying earthen in the plaza first.
Efficiency Tips
Lore Context
The Fallen Earthen Warrior is one of Kurun’s soldiers, an earthen warrior made of living stone. His dying words establish the central conflict: the earthen and stone giants have been besieging Thor Modan but cannot break through.
The quest text says his surface is “covered with cracks and gouges” and that “although he is incapable of bleeding, you can sense that the warrior is near death.” This is a striking detail. The earthen are literally stone. They don’t bleed. They crack. Their deaths look more like a statue breaking apart than a person dying.
Kurun is described across sources as a “towering figure of rocks and trees.” He is a stone giant, one of the titan-forged races created by the Titans to shape Azeroth. His alliance with the earthen against the iron dwarves represents a civil war among titan-forged: stone giants and earthen (who would eventually become modern dwarves) versus iron dwarves who serve the corrupted Keeper Loken.
The entire Thor Modan chain is a ground-level introduction to the titan-forged conflict that defines Storm Peaks and culminates in the Ulduar raid.
The Horde version, An Expedient Ally, frames the same situation through a completely different lens. Where the Alliance version is a dying soldier’s last plea, the Horde version is pure military pragmatism. Scout Vor’takh tells Horde players that the earthen-versus-iron-dwarf conflict is “beyond the Horde’s interest” but represents an opportunity to “crush a mutual enemy.” Same destination, different motivation.
Cross-Expansion Connection: The Earthen in The War Within
The earthen you meet at Thor Modan, including the dying warrior who gives this quest, are the same type of titan-forged beings who became a playable Allied Race in The War Within (2024). The War Within introduces an isolated society of earthen in Khaz Algar, deep beneath Azeroth, who have maintained their stone forms for millennia.
These earthen were never affected by the Curse of Flesh, the Old God corruption that transformed other earthen into the flesh-and-blood dwarves players know from Ironforge.
The Thor Modan earthen sit at a fascinating midpoint in this lore: they still have their original stone bodies, they fight alongside stone giants, and their enemy (the iron dwarves) serves Loken, who is himself corrupted by the Old God Yogg-Saron.
This quest introduces the basic framework of titan-forged politics that Blizzard would spend the next 16 years expanding, from Ulduar to the Halls of Stone (where the Curse of Flesh is first explained), all the way through to the Earthen becoming a playable race.
When you speak to Kurun, you are standing at the very beginning of one of WoW’s longest-running lore threads.

Vikstone's War JournalThe Earthen warrior lay broken in the plaza of Thor Modan. His stone flesh was covered with cracks and gouges, but no blood pooled beneath him.

A hoarse voice escaped his mouth when I knelt beside him. “Find… Kurun. Our leader. He stands… on the hill overlooking Thor Modan. Tell him… we cannot take the city.”
The light faded from his carved eyes. I rose and climbed toward the ridge.
Kurun was a stone giant of immense stature, standing watch over the battle below, where his earthen and giants clashed with iron dwarves.
I delivered the fallen warrior’s message. Kurun considered it.
“They fight bravely, but he is right. We will not overcome the iron dwarves without help. My giants and the Earthen have long struggled against iron’s evil, but our forces are not numerous enough to win the battle for Thor Modan.” He looked down at me. “Will you aid us?”
I met the giant’s gaze and nodded.
Kurun’s earthen are brave and outnumbered. The giant has a plan that involves boulders, gravity, and iron dwarves who haven’t thought to look up in Raining Down Destruction.
