Quick Facts
Walkthrough
Before Accepting:
Step 1: Accept the Quest and Mount Up
Accept from Warmage Anzim. He shouts: “Mages! Take wing!”
You’ll automatically mount one of the red drakes. The rescue squad consists of you and several Kirin Tor war mages on dragonback.
Step 2: Enjoy the Ride
This is a scripted event. You don’t control the drake. Sit back and watch as your group flies toward Evanor’s floating prison at Beryl Point [42, 31].
The other drakes will engage and eliminate the guards on the platform while you circle. Once the platform is secured, your drake lands.
Step 3: Prison Opens Automatically
Anzim uses the reforged key to open Evanor’s arcane prison. You don’t need to click anything or press any keys yourself. The prison opens automatically as part of the scripted event.
Step 4: Teleport Back
Archmage Evanor teleports you directly to the top floor of the mage tower at Amber Ledge. You appear right next to her.
Step 5: Turn In
Speak with Evanor on the top floor to complete the quest.
Story Context: The Rescue
Anzim (quest text): “At last, we attack!”
“Once we’ve cleared the platform I’ll use the key.”
“You are to ensure that Lady Evanor remains safe after her release.”
“Hurry now, let us be off!”
Evanor (completion): “Your heroic efforts shall not be forgotten, <class>.”
“Please, accept this with my sincere gratitude.”
This is the climactic moment of the Amber Ledge campaign. Everything from freeing prisoners at Beryl Point, to capturing and torturing a sorcerer for information, to killing Inquisitor Salrand and reforging her broken key has led to this moment: a coordinated assault on dragonback to rescue one of the Kirin Tor’s most important archmages.

Flying Shortcut (Cold Weather Flying)
If you have Cold Weather Flying (level 77+ or BoA tome at 68), you can skip the scripted drake ride:
This bypasses the scripted flight entirely, which can be useful if the drake mechanic is bugged for you.
Lore: Archmage Evanor
Archmage Evanor (also called Lady Evanor) is an important member of the Kirin Tor who was captured by the blue dragonflight while traveling from Dalaran to Amber Ledge. Her abduction was the catalyst for this entire questline.
The tortured Beryl Sorcerer revealed her location: “Your precious archmage is held in a prison, elevated and sealed. Even if you manage to reach her, Salrand herself holds the key. Your mission is folly!”
He was wrong about the folly. With the combined might of the Kirin Tor warmages and Surristrasz’s red drakes, the mission succeeds. After her rescue, Evanor remains at Amber Ledge and directs players toward the larger threat: the Nexus War itself.
Chain Complete: Amber Ledge Campaign
With Rescuing Evanor complete, the main Amber Ledge rescue arc concludes. The full chain:
The story continues with Dragonspeak, where Evanor sends you to speak with Surristrasz about the larger crisis: Malygos and the Nexus War.

Vikstone's War JournalAnzim raised his arm as the drakes descended.

“At last, we attack! Once we’ve cleared the platform, I’ll use the key.” He swung onto the lead drake’s back. “You are to ensure that Lady Evanor remains safe after her release. Hurry now, let us be off!”
I mounted.
Three red drakes, three war mages, and one night elf with a grudge against everyone who’d made this rescue necessary. We rose from Amber Ledge and banked toward Beryl Point.
The mage hunters had perhaps ten seconds to prepare before the drakes hit their platform like a storm of claws and fire. The guards scattered or died. Most died.
I dropped from my drake into the chaos, keeping close to Anzim as he fought his way to the prison. The arcane cube shone with trapped energy, and inside it, a figure hung suspended. It was Lady Evanor, pale, weakened, but alive.
Anzim pressed the key to the prison’s surface. Light flared and the cube dissolved.
Evanor fell forward, and I caught her before she hit the stone. Her eyes found mine, then Anzim’s, taking in what we’d done to reach her.
“Hold on,” she whispered.
The world twisted with arcane light, and then we were standing in the mage tower, the battle already far behind us.
Evanor steadied herself against a bookshelf. “Your heroic efforts shall not be forgotten. Please, accept this with my sincere gratitude.”
She was safe. The mission was done. But somewhere in the back of my mind, I could still hear the sorcerer screaming.
Evanor was free and her rescue was one skirmish in something much larger, and she sent him back to Surristrasz, who had things to say about Malygos and had stopped dismissing mortals, in Dragonspeak.
