This brief quest provides an important narrative beat: Normantis acknowledges what he asked you to do.
Normantis (quest text): “Thank you, <class>! The information you’ve extracted is of vital importance to the Kirin Tor. Return at once to Donathan as we make plans for the rescue of Lady Evanor.”
Donathan (completion): “Forgive me, <name>. I know that was unpleasant work.”
“Were it not for the desperation of our circumstance I’d never have asked you to assist us in such a manner.”
“So… what have you discovered?”
This is one of the few moments in WoW where NPCs acknowledge the moral weight of what they’ve asked players to do. Donathan explicitly apologizes for involving you in torture, framing it as a necessity born of desperation rather than standard procedure. Whether this makes the Kirin Tor’s actions more or less defensible is left for players to decide.

“The information you’ve extracted is of vital importance to the Kirin Tor,” Normantis said. His voice was steady, professional, as if the screaming from a moment ago had been someone else’s concern. “Return at once to Donathan as we make plans for the rescue of Lady Evanor.”
I left the tower without looking back at the prisoner.
Donathan was waiting below. When I approached, something flickered across his face. Guilt, maybe. Or its scholarly cousin.
“Forgive me,” he said. “I know that was unpleasant work. Were it not for the desperation of our circumstance, I’d never have asked you to assist us in such a manner. So… what have you discovered?”
I told him. The location. The defenses. Everything the sorcerer had given up between screams.
When I finished, he was all business again. The apology filed away, the rescue mission taking priority.
That was fair. Lady Evanor’s life mattered more than my conscience. The mages would save her, and the information I’d extracted would make it possible.
Salrand had the key and was still standing at Beryl Point, and the rescue was taking shape around the one part of it that could not wait, which makes killing her A Race Against Time.
