Walkthrough

Use the Augmented Arcane Prison anywhere in Coldarra to summon Keristrasza. She appears in her high elf form and offers the quest immediately.

• Location Matters: You must be in Coldarra (or the Transitus Shield specifically). Using the item too close to the Nexus entrance may produce an error message.
• Give Yourself Space: Back away from Raelorasz and other NPCs before using the item. The center of the Transitus Shield works well.

Simply speak to her to complete the quest and receive the follow-up.

Tips

• She Can Despawn: Keristrasza will despawn after a short time if you don’t interact with her. If you’re reading quest text carefully before accepting, she may vanish mid-conversation. Just use the Augmented Arcane Prison again.
• Someone Else’s Keristrasza: If another player has already summoned Keristrasza and she’s standing around, you can interact with her to start or turn in quests even if you didn’t summon her yourself.
• Lost Your Prison? If you accidentally destroyed the Augmented Arcane Prison, speak to Raelorasz at the Transitus Shield. He has a dialogue option to provide a replacement. Note: He won’t give you a new one if you still have it in your bags, so check carefully first.

Story Context

Keristrasza (quest text): “I am… free? I was destined to spend an eternity roaming an empty abyss, and now am saved? You cannot fathom my gratitude, mortal. When I refused to bend to his will Malygos bound me to that prison, then shattered it and scattered the pieces. Should I live one hundred of your lifetimes, I shall not forget this kindness.”

“Perhaps, in time, I will find ways to repay you. For now, though, we must focus our attention on Malygos. I am weak, and there is much to be done. I need your help.”

Completion: “We cannot wait for me to regain my strength. I must rely on you to make our preparations…”

Keristrasza is a red dragon, a servant of Alexstrasza the Life-Binder. When the Nexus War began, and Malygos started his campaign against mortal magic-users, Keristrasza opposed him. For her defiance, Malygos imprisoned her in an augmented arcane prison, then shattered it and scattered the pieces across Coldarra to ensure she could never be freed.

By reassembling the prison fragments from General Cerulean and Warbringer Goredrak, you’ve done the impossible and freed a dragon no one thought could be saved. Though weakened, she immediately turns her attention to vengeance against Malygos, and she has insider knowledge from her captivity that will prove invaluable.

Lore: Keristrasza’s Tragic Arc

What begins as a rescue mission ends in tragedy. Keristrasza’s gratitude is genuine, and her intelligence about Malygos’s operations is accurate. But her plan to strike at the Aspect of Magic has devastating consequences:

1. She helps you kill Saragosa, Malygos’s consort
2. This lures Malygos out of the Nexus for an ambush
3. The ambush fails; Malygos captures Keristrasza
4. Malygos forces her to become his new consort
5. He tortures her and brands her with arcane runes until she goes insane
6. In The Nexus dungeon, you must kill her to end her suffering

Her final words as a boss: “Finish it! Finish it! Kill me, or I swear by the Dragonqueen you’ll never see daylight again!” and “Dragonqueen… Life-Binder… preserve… me.”

Cross-Expansion Note: A Recurring Blizzard Theme

Keristrasza’s story shares the same theme of other Blizzard characters who are captured, corrupted against their will, and ultimately must be killed by those who once helped them.

The parallel to Sarah Kerrigan from StarCraft is often noted: both are powerful female characters who are betrayed and transformed by an enemy force (the Zerg Swarm/the blue dragonflight), retaining enough of their original personalities to recognize their fate but unable to escape it.
