Story Context
Raelorasz (quest text): “We owe this opportunity in great part to your efforts. It is only fitting that you initiate the attack on Malygos. Take this spark and use it to light the signal fire northwest of the Nexus. Keristrasza will direct you from there.”
Completion: “We have dealt a blow to Malygos, but it has come at a high price.”
This is the culmination of Keristrasza’s plan. By burning Saragosa’s corpse on Malygos’s doorstep, she lures him out of the safety of his realm. The red dragonflight is mustered and ready to strike.
But the ambush fails. Despite all their preparations, Malygos overpowers the attack with barely a thought. He captures Keristrasza and, in vengeance for Saragosa’s death, forces her to become his new consort.
The rescuer becomes the prisoner. The dragon you freed now awaits you inside The Nexus, driven mad by torture and arcane branding, begging for death.
Lore: A Pyrrhic Victory
Yes, Saragosa is dead. Yes, Malygos is enraged. But the Aspect of Magic simply takes what he lost. One red dragon consort for one dead blue dragon consort. The “trap” sprung, but on the wrong dragon.

Vikstone's War JournalRaelorasz pressed the spark into my hands.

“We owe this opportunity in great part to your efforts. It is only fitting that you initiate the attack on Malygos.” He pointed toward the Nexus. “Take this spark and use it to light the signal fire northwest of the Nexus. Keristrasza will direct you from there.”
The signal fire waited on a platform overlooking the dragon aspect’s fortress. I touched spark to kindling, and the flame roared to life, painting the sky red.
Keristrasza landed beside me in her true form. Magnificent, terrible, a red dragon at war.
“Climb on.”
We flew. Around the Nexus, through the chaos of battle. Above us, Malygos himself fought the red dragons, arcane power singing between them like lightning between clouds. The reds were losing. They’d known they would. But they held.
Keristrasza banked hard, setting me down on a distant ridge. “Hurry! Flee! Live to finish what we’ve begun here!”
Before I could respond, the sky split. Malygos descended and his voice shook the mountains.
“Keristrasza! You’ve bested my consort… and now YOU shall take her place!”
Arcane lightning struck her. She screamed, body locking rigid, scales dimming as frost crawled across her wings.
“Never!” she roared.
But she couldn’t fight it. Couldn’t move.
Malygos took her.
I stood on that ridge and watched them vanish toward the Nexus, watched her disappear into the fortress of the creature who’d already imprisoned her once.
Raelorasz found me later.
“We have dealt a blow to Malygos,” he said quietly. “But it has come at a high price.”
Keristrasza was inside the Nexus by then, branded and driven mad by the aspect who had already caged her once, and the next time Vikstone saw her she was a Prisoner of War asking him to end it.
