Quest Giver/Turn-in: Raelorasz at the Transitus Shield [33, 34]

Objective: Obtain the Azure Codex from Inquisitor Caleras and collect 3 Shimmering Runes from Coldarra Spellbinders.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Locate the Spellbinders and Caleras

Head south from the Transitus Shield toward the Nexus. Inquisitor Caleras and his Coldarra Spellbinders are found on the floating blue platforms south of the Nexus, around [33, 28].

There are approximately 3 Spellbinders on Caleras’s platform, with 5 or more in the immediate surrounding area.

Step 2: Kill Spellbinders for Shimmering Runes

Coldarra Spellbinders are humanoid frost casters. They use Frostbolt and can summon Frozen Spheres if you don’t interrupt them.

Combat Tips:

• Pull carefully. If you pull multiple Spellbinders at once, the summoned Frozen Spheres can stack up and become a nuisance.
• Use interrupts to prevent the summons.
• Line of sight pulling works well for ranged classes.
• Melee classes: Pull casters to you using ranged attacks rather than charging into groups.

Note: Do NOT confuse Coldarra Spellbinders (humanoid mage hunters, drop runes) with Coldarra Spellweavers (dragonkin, do not drop runes).

Step 3: Kill Inquisitor Caleras

Caleras is a level 72 elite-style mob with frost abilities (Frost Nova, Frostbolt). He’s not marked as elite, but he hits harder than the regular Spellbinders.

Clear the Spellbinders around his platform first. If you engage Caleras while other Spellbinders are nearby, they will chain-pull and overwhelm you quickly.

Step 4: Loot and Return

Caleras drops the Azure Codex (100% drop). Return to Raelorasz at the Transitus Shield.

Tips

• Efficiency Route: Start at the outer edges of the Spellbinder area and work your way toward Caleras. You’ll likely have all 3 runes by the time you reach him.
• Bonus Drop: While killing Spellbinders, watch for a Scintillating Fragment to drop. This starts Puzzling…, which leads to the Keristrasza questline and eventually unlocks dungeon quests for The Nexus. The Fragment has a high drop rate and you’ll likely get it while completing this quest.

Story Context

Raelorasz (quest text): “I sense a distinct peculiarity in the drakes here but the meaning of the runes that cover their bodies still eludes me. Without a codex, it will take more time than we can afford for me to interpret them. Not far from here is a Kirin Tor traitor, Caleras, who is likely to have a copy of the tome I require. His underlings hold the runes I will need for my translation. Hurry, mortal. Malygos gains strength with every passing moment.”

Completion: “You have done well, <race>. Let us hope for a clue that we can use against Malygos.”

Raelorasz has been studying the mysterious runes inscribed on Malygos’s drakes (as seen in Drake Hunt), but he can’t interpret them without a proper codex. Fortunately, a traitor can provide one.

Lore Note: Inquisitor Caleras and the Kirin Tor Betrayal

Inquisitor Caleras is described as both a Kirin Tor traitor and a member of the blue dragonflight. He leads a group of beryl mage hunters called Coldarra Spellbinders. The “Inquisitor” title suggests he interrogates or hunts down magic users who don’t submit to Malygos’s authority.

The Kirin Tor and blue dragonflight were historically allied. Both organizations dedicated themselves to the responsible study and protection of arcane magic. When Malygos declared war on mortal magic users, the Kirin Tor refused to surrender their power. Caleras chose Malygos’s side.

The Azure Codex he carries is a tome containing the key to understanding the blue dragonflight’s runic magic. Raelorasz needs it to decode what Malygos is doing to his drakes, potentially uncovering a weakness in the Aspect’s plans.
