Walkthrough

Step 1: Reach the Transitus Shield

The Transitus Shield is a hidden Kirin Tor outpost on the southeastern edge of Coldarra [33, 34]. If you haven’t been to Coldarra before, travel to Amber Ledge and speak to Surristrasz, the large orange dragon, who will fly you there.

Step 2: Kill Coldarra Spellweavers

Coldarra Spellweavers are level 71-72 blue dragonkin found across Coldarra. Good farming locations:

• Around [32, 28], north of the Transitus Shield near the blue/purple arcane circles
• Around [26, 36], another good concentration west of the Nexus

Only Spellweavers count. Coldarra has multiple dragonkin types (Wyrmkin, Spellbinders, etc.), but only Spellweavers give credit for this quest.

Combat Note: Be careful of Coldarra Spellbinders in the area. Some have hellhound pets and spawn additional elemental adds. Pulling Spellbinders while fighting a Spellweaver can make the encounter difficult.

Step 3: Return to Raelorasz

Return to the Transitus Shield and turn in the quest to unlock several follow-up quests.

Tips

• Shared Spawns: Spellweavers may share spawn points with other dragonkin types. If you can’t find any, clear nearby mobs to force respawns.
• Competition: During server launches or peak times, the area can be crowded. Consider waiting for off-peak hours or grouping up.
• Combo Questing: While killing Spellweavers, you can also work on Secrets of the Ancients if you have it, as some objectives overlap in the same area.

Story Context

Raelorasz (quest text): “This is war, mortal, and we are the tip of the spear.”

“Your little spats over land or currency pale in comparison to this conflict. We face the aspect Malygos and his entire blue dragonflight. All you need to know is that if he is victorious, this world shall be no more.”

“We are but few here, and we fly against many. Our deaths are all but a certainty, and our ultimate success lies in merely delaying our enemy.”

“Go now. Busy yourself while I decide what to do with you.”

Completion: “Alright, <class>, now that you’ve become familiar with the enemy it’s time for you to get to work.”

Raelorasz doesn’t sugarcoat the situation. He’s a red dragon fighting against his blue dragonflight cousins in what he knows is likely a losing battle. Your arrival is a minor curiosity; he sends you to kill Spellweavers not because he expects great things from you, but because he needs to assess whether you’re worth his time while he figures out how to actually use you.

Lore: The Nexus War

This quest introduces you to the Nexus War, one of WotLK’s major conflicts alongside the war against the Lich King.

Malygos, the blue Aspect and guardian of magic, spent ten thousand years in a grief-induced stupor after Deathwing used the Demon Soul to slaughter most of his flight during the War of the Ancients. When he finally awakened and surveyed the world, he was horrified by what he saw: mortal races using arcane magic recklessly, with no regard for the consequences.

Malygos decided the only solution was to redirect all arcane energy on Azeroth back to the Nexus, his fortress in Coldarra. This would strip mortal spellcasters of their power and, in Malygos’s view, save the world from another Burning Legion invasion. The consequences of this plan were catastrophic: it splintered the world’s crust and tore holes in reality itself.

The red dragonflight, charged with preserving all life, could not allow Malygos’s crusade to continue. They formed the Wyrmrest Accord with the other dragonflights and allied with the Kirin Tor, who had obvious reasons to oppose a plan that would eliminate all magic users. The Transitus Shield is one of their forward bases, hidden from Malygos by a magical barrier that makes it appear as empty tundra from the outside.

2. Hatching a Plan – Destroy blue dragon eggs using axes from Coldarra Wyrmkin
3. Drake Hunt – Capture a Nexus Drake Hatchling (becomes daily)

Completing Basic Training and Hatching a Plan unlocks the Drake Hunt daily, a repeatable quest for Wyrmrest Accord reputation.
