Quest Giver: Stefan Vadu — Ebon Watch, Zul’Drak [14, 73]

Objective: Use the Ensorcelled Choker to activate your Scourge disguise, then purchase Bitter Plasma from Gristlegut at the Reliquary of Agony.

Walkthrough

This is your first real test of the Scourge disguise system you’ll be using for the rest of the Voltarus chain. Stefan has crafted the Ensorcelled Choker from the components you gathered, and now he wants you to take it for a test run.

1. Activate the disguise. Right-click the Ensorcelled Choker in your inventory to transform into a Scourge ghoul. Do NOT mount up first; activating the disguise dismounts you, and mounting back up drops the disguise.
2. Head east to the Reliquary of Agony. Gristlegut is an abomination vendor at [20, 75]. He thinks you’re just another ghoul (“Awww… look at da purty lil’ gool!”).
3. Buy one Bitter Plasma from his vendor window. Costs about 85 silver.
4. Return to Stefan Vadu at Ebon Watch and turn in.

Disguise Mechanics (Important for the Entire Chain)

This quest teaches the disguise rules you’ll rely on through the rest of the Voltarus infiltration. Learn them now:

• Blightguards see through the disguise. Give them a wide berth. If one spots you, your cover is blown and you’ll need to find a safe spot to re-activate the choker.
• The disguise is unstable and drops randomly. Stefan warns you about this directly. You’ll get an on-screen alert with a few seconds’ warning before it fades. Stay aware and be ready to duck behind cover and re-activate.
• Mounting drops the disguise. You must walk everywhere while disguised.
• Hunters: Your pet stays out during the transformation, and using traps, pet abilities, and pet heals does NOT break the disguise.
• Herbalists: Lifeblood does not break the disguise.
• Lost your choker? Return to Stefan Vadu at Ebon Watch and he’ll give you a replacement.

Side Quest: Feedin’ Da Goolz

While you’re at Gristlegut, pick up his side quest Feedin’ Da Goolz before heading back. He wants you to use a Bowels and Brains Bowl next to 10 Decaying Ghouls in the area.

You must be disguised to interact with Gristlegut, so grab this now to save yourself a return trip.

Lore Context

Stefan’s test run is practical but his completion dialogue carries a personal edge: “How are you enjoying scourge life? Believe me, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be….”

As a death knight who was once Scourge himself, he speaks from experience. Every member of Ebon Watch is a former servant of the Lich King who broke free, and they understand exactly what you’re pretending to be.

Gristlegut is a rare example of a “friendly” abomination NPC. He’s a simple creature doing his Scourge job, completely fooled by your disguise. His broken speech and genuine affection for his “gools” make him one of the more endearing Scourge characters in the zone.
