Walkthrough

Getting the Drop

• The Unliving Choker drops from Withered Trolls in the area around Ebon Watch.
• The drop rate is effectively 100% for eligible players. Your first Withered Troll kill should drop it.
• You’ll almost certainly pick this up naturally while doing Kickin’ Nass and Takin’ Manes, which sends you to kill the same trolls.

Starting the Quest

• Right-click the Unliving Choker in your bags to accept the quest. It’s a quest-starting item, not equipment.
• The quest text describes the choker as a bone artifact “dripping with blood” that compels you to wear it. Your character resists the urge and decides to bring it to Ebon Watch for a death knight’s assessment.

Turn In

• Bring the choker to Stefan Vadu at Ebon Watch [14, 73]. He’s the death knight commander who leads the Knights of the Ebon Blade operations in the zone.
• Stefan recognizes the choker immediately and tells you that you’ve been “chosen” by Drakuru.

Efficiency Tips

• Don’t go out of your way to farm Withered Trolls specifically. If you’re following the normal Zul’Drak quest progression through Crusader Lord Lantinga’s quests at Light’s Breach, you’ll get Kickin’ Nass and Takin’ Manes and pick up the choker during normal troll kills.
• Pick up the choker quest as soon as it drops and turn it in next time you’re at Ebon Watch. No reason to hold it.

Lore Context

This choker is Drakuru’s recruiting tool. From his necropolis Voltarus, he sends these enchanted chokers to the Withered Trolls below as “invitations” to join the Scourge. Most recipients probably put it on. Your character is smart enough to resist.

Stefan Vadu sees an opportunity. Instead of destroying the choker, he’ll eventually modify it into the Ensorcelled Choker, a Scourge disguise that lets you infiltrate Voltarus as a double agent. That plan unfolds across the full chain.

If you completed Drakuru’s quest chain in Grizzly Hills, the choker you find is a Writhing Choker instead, and the quest is called Darkness Calling. The difference is narrative: Drakuru already knows you from Grizzly Hills, so this “invitation” is personal rather than generic.

The full sequence runs: An Invitation, of Sorts… → Near Miss → You Can Run, But You Can’t Hide → Dressing Down → Infiltrating Voltarus → and onward through the Voltarus double-agent quests to Betrayal.
