Monty Python Reference: Tracker Gekgek’s dialogue after the kill is an homage to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. His threat to “taunt you a second time” while waving his spear directly mirrors the French Soldier’s famous taunting of King Arthur.

Found Pitch where she’d described. Wasn’t alone.
Three small figures had the lion cornered against the pillar’s base. Wolvar. Squat, wolverine-built things barely waist-high, carrying crude spears and a great deal of confidence. They worked together, circling, keeping Pitch trapped. The lion’s black fur was matted with blood from a dozen small wounds. Death by harassment.
The wolvar noticed me. One of them, the leader by the look of him, snarled something in their guttural tongue. I didn’t understand the words, but the meaning was clear enough: this was their kill.
Pitch chose that moment to make his break. Surged toward me instead of them, perhaps seeing one enemy as better odds than three. His choice. Mace met skull. The lion dropped.
Their leader rounded on me before the cat had finished bleeding out. “My kill! You take my kill!”
He jabbed a claw at the carcass, then at his own chest, then back at the carcass, in case the meaning had escaped me. “You dumb, night elf. Now you owe Gekgek! You be Frenzyheart slave. You slay many more beasts for Frenzyheart.”
Gekgek, then. His two companions had already lost interest and gone back to picking through the underbrush.
“You go Frenzyheart Hill to northeast. You tell High-Shaman Rakjak you the new slave. Go! Go or I taunt you a second time!”
I have fought demons in Outland and liches in Dragonblight. Nothing in either place threatened me with a second taunting.
Brought Pitch’s remains to Tamara. “You got it! Now all I have to do is make a trophy out of it. That’ll be the hard part, finding a way to preserve it so that Hemet doesn’t have a good laugh at my expense.”
Let her have her trophy. I had a hill to visit, apparently. And a second taunting to avoid.
Tamara had her trophy and Vikstone had a lion’s worth of questions about the wolvar who let him take it, but Sholazar’s real trouble was rooted somewhere else entirely in Force of Nature.
