Upon completion of this quest you will gain:
Quest Giver: Tracker Gekgek — near Pitch‘s location, southern Sholazar Basin [50.5, 77]
Objective: Report to High-Shaman Rakjak at Frenzyheart Hill as the new “slave.”
Quick Facts
Walkthrough
Kill Pitch at [50.5, 77], south of River’s Heart near the Wildgrowth Mangal. He’s surrounded by three wolvar hunters from the Frenzyheart Tribe. After Pitch dies, Tracker Gekgek will yell at you for stealing his kill: “My kill! You take my kill!” He then demands you become a Frenzyheart slave and offers this quest.
Fly northeast to Frenzyheart Hill [55, 69], located at the top of the mountain. Speak to High-Shaman Rakjak to turn in. His response: “You the new slave? Good. We running out.”
If the quest doesn’t appear after killing Pitch: Try using /reload immediately after Gekgek speaks. If that doesn’t work, kill Pitch again. This is a known bug that has persisted through WotLK Classic.
Efficiency Tips
Lore & Secrets
The Beginning of a Rivalry
This quest is the entry point into Sholazar Basin’s central faction conflict: the Frenzyheart Tribe (wolvar) versus the Oracles (gorloc). The chain ahead takes you through both sides before forcing a choice. Don’t worry about “picking wrong” here.
Your reputation shifts back and forth naturally throughout the chain, and the actual decision only happens at the very end during A Hero’s Burden. Even then, you can switch factions daily by re-doing the encounter.
The Frenzyheart Tribe are wolvar refugees displaced by the Scourge invasion of Northrend. According to Muradin Bronzebeard, they’re vague about where their original homeland was, using entirely different names for Northrend locations than other races. Despite being described as “some of the calmest wolvar in Northrend,” they’ve started a war with the gorloc Oracles over territory in Sholazar.
An interesting note: Pitch is pitched as a panther in some quest text (“You have slain Pitch, the panther that Tracker Gekgek worked hard to kill!”), while the in-game model clearly depicts him as a black-maned lion. In subsequent quests, your character is called a “lion killer”, in Blizzard’s own text.

Cross-Expansion Connections

Vikstone's War JournalPitch lay dead at my feet. My mace still dripped with its blood.
The wolvar who’d been chasing the beast stood before me now, spear thrust forward, barely coming up to my waist. His beady eyes burned with outrage.

“My kill! You take my kill!” He taunted me with his spear. Actually taunted. A three-foot warrior jabbing at a night elf who’d faced down demons in Outland and walked the Black Temple’s halls. “You dumb, night elf. Now you owe Gekgek! You be Frenzyheart slave.”
I considered my options.
“You go Frenzyheart Hill to northeast,” he said, apparently taking my silence for agreement. “You tell High-Shaman Rakjak you the new slave. Go! Go or I taunt you a second time!”
He waved his spear around menacingly. It was almost adorable.
The wolvar had been driven from their lands by the Scourge, I’d heard. Refugees, like so many others. Fierce despite their size, carving out a new home in this strange jungle. And apparently in need of… slaves.
I walked to Frenzyheart Hill.
High-Shaman Rakjak looked at my arms first, then my legs, then my face last, in that order.
“You the new slave? Good.” He nodded, satisfied. “We running out.”
Somewhere, Elune was laughing.
Rakjak took delivery of his new slave without asking where the last one went, and the first job was already waiting, because someone in this tribe was down an Ape Hunter’s Slave.
