The Confrontation
This is the climactic payoff of the investigation that began with The Black Knight of Westfall?. After weeks of gathering evidence (the fake backstory, the seer’s crystal, the murdered combatants, the squire’s toolkit, and the Cult of the Damned’s orders), you finally challenge the Black Knight publicly where he cannot refuse or murder in secret.
But of course, this is not truly the end.
The Cult of the Damned resurrects the Black Knight, and he returns as the final boss of Trial of the Champion in Patch 3.2, where he fights through three phases (death knight, skeleton, ghost) before being destroyed for good.

Vikstone's War JournalCrusader Rhydalla was at the rail when she handed it over.

“We must put an end to the Black Knight’s scheming, and show those who oppose us that we will not stand by and allow our champions to be murdered. By now, he will suspect that someone is on his trail. Challenge him in the light of day, where he cannot refuse or murder in the dark, Vikstone. Use my argent charger for the battle. It’s housed in the stables. Speak to Squire Cavin at the Ring of Champions. The squire will call the Black Knight to battle, but you will make him answer for his crimes.”
Her own charger. She did not offer it, she assigned it, and nobody in this country has lent me a horse while expecting to see it again.
In the light of day, where he cannot refuse. That is the entire plan. A man who works in tents and on empty roads has no answer at all to a squire shouting his name across a ring with a crowd standing around it. The form is the trap.
Squire Cavin put it out at the top of his voice. “Vikstone challenges the Black Knight to trial by combat!” Then, lower, to me: “Good luck, Vikstone.”
He came out. Black armor, black mount, and he had stopped troubling to look like a contestant. “Enough of this insolence!” the Black Knight said.
He was faster with a lance than the Argent Champion had been, and he went for the charger first. So it had to be quick. The thrust does something. The thrown lance does less. It is the charge that does the work, and the charge only lands once his guard is off him, which is the first thing Rugan Steelbelly ever told me.
His guard came off. I put the charge through him.
With it nearly done he came off the horse on his own and called me down to finish on foot. “Get off that horse and fight me man-to-man!”
There is a trick in that, and somebody had warned me about it. Step down before he has finished speaking and he walks to the center of the ring and is simply not there any longer. So I stayed in the saddle until the last of it was out of his mouth and the charger put me down of its own accord, and then I took up the Destroyer and the axe.
He fought hard and he fought badly at the end of it, which I have seen before in men who are certain they are being watched.
“I will not fail you, master!”
He failed anyway.
Crusader Rhydalla was waiting when it was over. “With the death of the Black Knight, the tournament may once again serve its purpose. The champions of the Horde and Alliance may demonstrate their skill at arms and train for the day when Arthas and his minions will no longer threaten us. You have the thanks of the Argent Crusade, Vikstone, and that of all who have answered our call.”
A murderer walked into one of those rings because he could not refuse the invitation
A man who dies promising his master he will not fail is a man whose master may not be finished with him, and the Cult of the Damned answers that question in The Black Knight’s Curse.
