Objective: Speak with Ambrose Boltspark, the Gnomeregan delegation leader, to register as a Valiant of Gnomeregan.

• Rewards: 10 reputation with Gnomeregan Exiles and Silver Covenant. Grants the Argent Valor achievement (if not already earned). Places an Argent Lance in your inventory (if not already obtained).
• Prerequisite: Complete The Aspirant’s Challenge (first time) or The Valiant’s Challenge for a previous city (subsequent times).
• Unlocks: Valiant-tier daily quests and The Valiant’s Charge (collect 25 Valiant’s Seals to advance to Champion of Gnomeregan).

Walkthrough

Walk to Ambrose Boltspark, the gnomish grand champion, inside the Silver Covenant Pavilion and speak with him. Quest complete.

For gnome characters, this is your default first Valiant quest offered after the Aspirant’s Challenge. For other Alliance races, this becomes available after you’ve championed your own racial city, as one of the four remaining cities on the road to Crusader.

What This Unlocks

Same Valiant daily structure as any other city: 5 dailies per day awarding Valiant’s Seals. Collect 25 seals (5 days), then complete the Valiant’s Challenge jousting duel to become Champion of Gnomeregan. See The Valiant’s Charge for the full daily breakdown.

Lore & Secrets

Easter Egg: Ambrose Burnside

Ambrose Boltspark‘s name and appearance are a reference to Ambrose Burnside, a Union Army general during the American Civil War.

The connection is in both the first name (“Ambrose”) and the NPC’s distinctive facial hair. Burnside was famous for his extravagant mutton chop sideburns, which were so iconic that the term “sideburns” is actually derived from his name (a reversal of “Burnside”).

Most players will walk right past Ambrose without realizing they’re talking to a gnome-ified Civil War general.

Gnomeregan’s Delegation

Gnomeregan’s participation in the Argent Tournament is poignant given the gnomes’ situation in WotLK. Their capital city remains irradiated and occupied by troggs and leper gnomes under Mekgineer Thermaplugg.

The gnomes are technically a displaced people operating out of Tinker Town in Ironforge, which makes their tournament delegation a statement of legitimacy: even without control of their homeland, the Gnomeregan Exiles are recognized as a full faction deserving representation alongside established powers like Stormwind and Ironforge.

In the Trial of the Champion dungeon, Ambrose fights as a mage, using Fireball and Polymorph, fitting the gnomes’ affinity for arcane magic.

Cross-Expansion Connections

• Cataclysm: The gnomes launch Operation: Gnomeregan, a pre-expansion event where they attempt to reclaim their city. They succeed in taking the surface but Thermaplugg retreats deeper underground.
• Trial of the Champion: Ambrose appears as one of five possible Alliance grand champion bosses for Horde groups.
• Title: Completing the full Gnomeregan champion path and reaching Exalted with Gnomeregan Exiles awards the title “of Gnomeregan” (e.g., “Vikstone of Gnomeregan”).
