The Valiant’s Charge

Quest 1 of 2 in the Valiant Chain
Alliance • Icecrown • Level 80 • Silver Covenant Pavilion
Bring 25 Valiant's Seals to Jaelyne Evensong.
Twenty-five seals at five per day is five days, and there is no way to compress it. Four dailies are open at this rank: the rotating weapon quest for two seals, then Field Training, the Grand Melee, and At the Enemy's Gates for one each. Miss any one of them on any day and the gate stretches by a full day. Unlike the Aspirant gate, this turn-in actually pays, 250 reputation with both Darnassus and the Silver Covenant. Expect to repeat this whole cycle for every city you champion if the Crusader title is the goal.
Vikstone's Classic Expedition
Jaelyne was candid that a valiant's fights count for nothing official and exist so the valiants can chase honor and notoriety among themselves. Five days of learning other cities' tells later he handed over twenty-five seals, and she said she would make the arrangements immediately.

“In your training as a valiant, you’ll have the chance to test your skills against valiants representing other cities. Although a valiant’s battles are not a formal part of the competition, you will learn valuable lessons about the fighting styles and weaknesses of your opponents. The valiants are a spirited lot, competing amongst themselves for honor and notoriety.

Train as a valiant until you are confident of your ability to best all who face you, then bring me the seals you have earned.”

-Jaelyne Evensong

Walkthrough

Valiant Daily Quests (5 per day, 5 seals total)

Daily Quest Seals What You Do
One rotating weapon quest (A Blade Fit for a Champion/A Worthy Weapon/The Edge of Winter) 2 Same three weapon quests from the Aspirant phase. Now award Valiant’s Seals instead of Aspirant’s Seals.
A Valiant’s Field Training 1 Kill 10 Converted Heroes at the Conflagration, west of the tournament grounds in Icecrown. Slightly harder than the Aspirant version (10 kills instead of 8, specific mob type).
The Grand Melee 1 Jousting duel against 3 Valiants from other faction cities at the Valiants’ Ring. Uses standard jousting mechanics. Good practice for the Valiant’s Challenge.
At the Enemy’s Gates 1 Mount a special siege vehicle and assault Scourge forces near the gates of Icecrown Citadel. Kill 15 Boneguard Footmen, 10 Boneguard Scouts, and 3 Boneguard Lieutenants.

Efficiency Tips

  • 5 days, no shortcuts. Unlike the Aspirant phase (3 days), the Valiant phase takes a full 5 days of maxing out your dailies. Missing one quest on one day adds another full day.
  • At the Enemy’s Gates is the highlight. You mount a vehicle with abilities similar to the Bone Gryphon from the Death’s Rise chain and assault Scourge forces at the Citadel’s gates. It’s one of the more enjoyable dailies in the tournament and a nice break from jousting.
  • The Grand Melee is practice for the Valiant’s Challenge. The Valiants you fight here use the same tactics as the Champion-tier NPC you’ll face in the challenge duel, just at slightly lower difficulty. Use these fights to tighten your jousting fundamentals.
  • A Valiant’s Field Training sends you to the Conflagration (west of the tournament grounds), where Converted Heroes are clustered. Combine with any other Icecrown questing in the area.
  • You’ll repeat this entire 5-day cycle for each additional city you want to champion. Plan for approximately 25 days total if going for Crusader (5 cities x 5 days each).

Not a formal part of the competition. So for five days I fought Stormwind and Ironforge and Gnomeregan and the Exodar in bouts that went into nobody’s ledger, and the object of the exercise, as she put it, was to learn the weaknesses of my opponents.

Every man who has kept me alive in this country came out of one of those four cities. I did the exercise anyway. I know now where a gnome valiant’s guard drops when his arm gets tired, and where a draenei carries his weight coming out of a turn.

Twenty-five seals by the fifth evening.

“Are you ready to demonstrate your mastery of the valiant’s skills?”

I gave them to her.

“Impressive, valiant. I will make the arrangements for your test immediately.”

Honor and notoriety. Down the hill from those grounds there is a fortress full of things that compete for neither.

Five days of fights that counted for nothing come due the moment Jaelyne makes the arrangements, and the one that counts is The Valiant’s Challenge.
