“I‘ve got some boys suited and ready for their drops inside of Ymirheim. I could use you to see them there safely. Inside the walls, the vrykul have set up some kind of automated spear guns that have been tearing up our transports. We had our engineers install a Suppression Turret to shut down those spear guns – just fire a round near any gun and the smoke should block its sight and clog its gears.
Hop on the turret and see to it that all my boys make it to their drops in one piece.”

Vikstone's War Journal“I’ve got some boys suited and ready for their drops inside of Ymirheim,” Koup said. “I could use you to see them there safely. Inside the walls, the vrykul have set up some kind of automated spear guns that have been tearing up our transports. We had our engineers install a Suppression Turret to shut down those spear guns. Just fire a round near any gun and the smoke should block its sight and clog its gears. Hop on the turret and see to it that all my boys make it to their drops in one piece.”

I had asked for the gate. I got a seat.
The transport went up with a dozen men crouched along both benches, and I sat behind the turret at the rear with the whole town coming at us sideways. The guns inside the walls are vrykul work and they are ugly, squat frames that crank round on their bases and put a spear through a fuselage without anyone touching them. Whatever the Ymirjar are, they have learned to let a machine do the aiming.
The turret gives you three rounds and then it has to fill again. A hit does not kill the gun. The smoke blinds it for fifteen seconds and fouls the gears, and then it comes back, because nothing on this glacier stays dead when it is the enemy’s.
Three rounds, four guns tracking, one aircraft that would not hold still, and a pilot flying the drops on his own schedule rather than mine.
One by one the men went out the side, and every one of them looked at me on the way past. Not at the town. At the turret.
The last man made his jump with a gun coming out of its smoke behind him, and I got a round into it, and it fouled, and he was gone into the roofs.
“Excellent work, soldier. We could use more able bodies like you around here. Stop back by another day if the operation hasn’t wrapped up.”
The infiltrators were inside the walls now and the gate was still shut, which left the harder half of Koup’s problem exactly where it had been all morning, waiting for someone willing to walk at it in Assault by Ground.
