Efficiency Tips
WotLK Classic Quirk: If you already traveled to Steel Gate and picked up quests directly from Irena (such as Where is Explorer Jaren?), this quest may not appear from Old Man Stonemantle. This is a known issue that can block the I’ve Toured the Fjord achievement if you need this quest for completion.
If you’re going for the achievement, pick up My Daughter before visiting Steel Gate on your own.

Vikstone's War Journal“Tell me, is it true? Did the explorers that went into Whisper Gulch go mad?”

Old Man Stonemantle’s hands shook as he spoke. Not from age alone.
“My daughter is the overseer of the Explorers’ League that went north to some place called Steel Gate. With the horrible events that have befallen us, I fear for her safety.” He met my eyes. “Please. I am too old to make the journey. Her name is Irena. Will you go make certain that she is alright?”
I knew that look, the fear of a father imagining every terrible possibility.
Steel Gate sat north of Westguard Keep, an Explorers’ League outpost carved into the Howling Fjord. When I found Overseer Irena Stonemantle, she was elbow-deep in expedition logistics, barking orders in dwarven.
Her reaction to my message was not what her father might have hoped. “Grrr. I knew it! He’s sooooo over-protective!” She threw her hands up. “This is just embarrassing.”
Then she caught herself, softened slightly.
“Not that I’m not happy to see you. I am! We all are. We can use your help!”
Competent. Exasperated. Alive. Everything a worried father needed to hear, even if the messenger would spare him the eye-rolling.
Irena was perfectly fine and her excavation was short-handed and under gargoyles, and somebody had to walk the perimeter, since the flying machines were not about to See to the Operations themselves.
