Lore Context
Thayreen suspects the furbolgs’ unusual aggression is connected to the dark energy found beneath Vordrassil’s remains. Her suspicion is correct: upon turn-in, she confirms that the corruption in the furbolg blood is “identical to that of the slime” from the Vordrassil caves.
This is Yogg-Saron’s influence, spread through Vordrassil’s corrupted roots into the soil, water, and wildlife of the surrounding area.
The two furbolg tribes, Frostpaw and Redfang, are at war with each other. Their aggro quotes reflect this: Redfang shout things about killing Frostpaw, and vice versa. Both tribes are corrupted by the same force but blame each other for the madness rather than recognizing the true source.
Orsonn and Kodian, Ursoc’s children, remain among the corrupted furbolgs because they love their people too much to abandon them. According to the Bronzebeard brothers’ later account (Exploring Azeroth: Northrend), both are still at their respective shrines years later, still hoping their people will find peace.

She met my eyes. “Their condition could be linked with the contaminants we found on Vordrassil’s remains.”
I’d fought beside the furbolgs in the Timbermaw in Felwood, earned their trust through years of proving myself against the corruption that plagued their kin. These had fallen further.
The shrines at Rage Fang and Heart’s Blood told the story. Broken totems, frenzied chanting. Furbolgs that charged with foam on their lips and madness in their eyes, beyond reason and beyond fear. When they fell, the dark substance Thayreen mentioned wept from their wounds. It was not blood.
I filled the vials and tried not to breathe.
Thayreen studied the samples in silence. When she finally spoke, her voice was hollow.
“The corruption present in this blood is identical to that of the slime.” She set down the vial carefully. “I don’t have a good feeling about this.”
The corruption in the blood matches Vordrassil’s poison exactly, and two of Ursoc’s own children are still living among the maddened tribes. They need to be found in Children of Ursoc.
