Walkthrough

Visit Both Shrines and Listen to Each Story

This is a dialogue quest. You must speak to Ursoc’s two children (who appear as large bears) in their respective caves. Each has a multi-step conversation you need to click through completely to receive the quest credit (“Orsonn’s Story” and “Kodian’s Story”).

• Orsonn (Ursoc’s son) — Cave at [48, 58] inside Rage Fang Shrine [50, 57]. This is Frostpaw furbolg territory. The trail up to the cave area starts around [53, 55].
• Kodian (Ursoc’s daughter) — Cave at [67, 62] inside Heart’s Blood Shrine [66, 53]. This is Redfang furbolg territory.

Avoiding Combat at the Shrines

• Faction neutrality trick: If you’re also doing A Possible Link, you can use the kills to your advantage. Killing a Redfang furbolg grants a temporary buff (approximately 5 minutes) that makes Frostpaw furbolgs neutral, and vice versa. Time your kills so you gain neutrality with the tribe guarding whichever cave you’re approaching.
• Shortcut to Orsonn’s cave: There is a log fence next to the cave that can be bypassed. Walk up the hill at [49.2, 58.8] and work your way to the right to slip through. This route leaves you with only the two guards at the cave entrance to deal with rather than the entire camp.
• Note on timing: The 5-minute neutrality buff may not always be enough to reach the second shrine if you’re traveling between them. If it wears off, you’ll need to fight through or kill another furbolg of the opposite tribe to refresh it.

Efficient Pathing (with A Possible Link)

1. Head east from Amberpine Lodge to Rage Fang Shrine [50, 57]. Kill Frostpaw furbolgs for Crazed Furbolg Blood on the way.
2. Enter Orsonn’s cave at [48, 58]. Click through his full dialogue (two conversation steps).
3. Continue east to Heart’s Blood Shrine [66, 53]. Kill Redfang furbolgs for more blood as needed.
4. Enter Kodian’s cave at [67, 62]. Click through her full dialogue (two conversation steps).
5. Hearthstone to Amberpine Lodge and turn in both quests to Hierophant Thayreen.

Lore Context

This quest is the emotional core of the Vordrassil chain, providing the backstory for everything players have investigated so far. Both conversations are worth reading rather than clicking through blindly.

Orsonn’s Story reveals the tragedy of Ursoc’s resurrection. Ursoc died during the War of the Ancients over 10,000 years ago, and the furbolgs who worshipped him spent centuries trying to find a way to bring him back. They eventually attempted to regrow Vordrassil and use its magic for the resurrection.

It worked, but the same corruption that caused the ancient druids to destroy Vordrassil in the first place manifested in the new sapling and twisted both Ursoc and the furbolgs into violent, bloodthirsty creatures.

Orsonn’s final line is devastating: “The thing that now walks the Grizzly Hills is not my father and it must be put to rest.”

Kodian’s Story introduces Tur Ragepaw, a Timbermaw furbolg from the south (Felwood/Winterspring). Tur traveled to Grizzly Hills because he believed Vordrassil’s taint could be purified and used to save Ursoc. Kodian is skeptical, but Tur becomes your critical ally in the chain’s finale: he accompanies you to Ursoc’s Den and can serve as either a tank or healer depending on your class needs.

Players who built Timbermaw Hold reputation in Felwood know the Timbermaw as one of the few uncorrupted furbolg tribes. Tur Ragepaw represents their tradition of fighting corruption rather than surrendering to it, a contrast to the Grizzly Hills furbolgs who accidentally embraced it.

Cross-Expansion Connection: According to Exploring Azeroth: Northrend, both Orsonn and Kodian remain at their respective shrines years after the events of WotLK. Kodian told the Bronzebeard brothers that she and her brother still hope their people will someday find peace among themselves. Orsonn cannot bring himself to leave despite being strong enough to fight his way out, because he loves the furbolgs too much to harm them.

This mirrors his father’s own protective nature before the corruption.
