Walkthrough

Grab Both Quests

• Hierophant Thayreen stands outside the main building at Amberpine Lodge. She offers both The Failed World Tree and A Dark Influence simultaneously. Pick up both before heading out; they share the same three Vordrassil cave locations.

Collect Slime Samples

• Travel north from Amberpine Lodge to any of the three Vordrassil locations. Entropic Oozes spawn in and around the caves at each site. Kill them to collect Slime Samples (6 required).
• Vordrassil’s Limb: [33, 48]
• Vordrassil’s Tears: [28, 45]
• Vordrassil’s Heart: [40, 50]
• You can collect all 6 samples from a single location or spread them across multiple sites. The oozes are plentiful enough at any one cave.

Pair with A Dark Influence

• While killing oozes, head into the caves to use the Evergrowing Frond (the quest item for A Dark Influence) at each of the three Vordrassil segments. Completing both quests in one trip saves significant travel time.

Efficient Pathing

• If completing both quests: start at the Limb [33, 48] (closest to Amberpine Lodge heading north), then move east to the Tears [28, 45], and finish at the Heart [40, 50] before heading south back to Amberpine. You should have all 6 samples well before visiting all three locations.
• Return to Hierophant Thayreen at Amberpine Lodge.

Lore Context

This quest begins one of Grizzly Hills’ most significant storylines.

Vordrassil (originally named Andrassil, “Crown of the Snow”) was planted 4,500 years before the First War by Fandral Staghelm over a large saronite deposit. The tree’s roots grew deep enough to reach Yogg-Saron’s prison beneath Northrend, and the Old God used Vordrassil as a doorway into the Emerald Dream.

The druids destroyed the tree when they realized what had happened, renaming it Vordrassil (“Broken Crown”), but the corruption lingered in the soil.

Thayreen’s analysis of the slime confirms her fears: the ooze is “corrupt and evil.” This sets up the entire investigation chain that ultimately leads to the corrupted Wild God Ursoc and the first direct player encounter with Yogg-Saron’s influence in the expansion.
